View Full Version : Breeze 1.75" roll bars: what size hole should be drilled in the body

I plan to use the Breeze 1.75" roll bars on my car. I assume that I will have to drill holes in the body at are at least 1.75" in diameter. I also expect that you don't want the roll bars to touch the body to avoid rubbing and squeeking. I plan to use trim rings. Will drilling body holes of 2" provide enough clearance for the roll bars and enough purchase for the trim rings? Thanks!

I used rubber grommets from McMaster-Carr for the holes, instead of the typical decorative grommets. These required a bit more clearance around the holes - along the lines of about 3/16" of gap.

For the angled tube, I cut two of the grommets and the break line between them is nearly imperceptible.

2" is big enough if you plan to use Russ Thompson's trim rings (made for the Breeze 1 3/4" rollbars)
BUT, I would not drill a 2" hole unless you know EXACTLY where they need to go. I'd suggest starting with a smaller hole and sneaking up on it with a dremel drum sander or larger drill sanding drum. If you get the holes too big or off-centered, it could be problematic for the trim rings screws.

Thanks, MPTech, that sounds like good counsel. I want to drill the holes, but have been trying to figure out how to be sure to get the holes in the right place. FFR marked them, but they are not in exactly the same place on each side. Any suggestions on how to get the holes in just the right place to begin with?

X2 on starting small and making them bigger. I started at ff's marks and went from there, the ff marks didn't line up all that well, so be careful. Take your time, maybe use a straight edge from the stub on the frame to project the hole, saw someone that dropped a small laser pointer in the stub to project a spot on the body.

The bend in the breeze bars makes it hard to judge. My holes are barely covered by the trim rings in spots, gonna need some hsrf before paint.

Good luck
