Hello. I'm in the planning stages for a coupe and had a question about the rear spoiler and small fender scoops. According to assembly manual, these parts are rivited on as the original cars. My questions are these. The parts almost need to be painted before riviting on. Does everyone do this or paint after it is rivited on? Wouldn't, after time, the paint not hold up in the rivet area due to vibration? Do the rivets ever come loose? Also, painting after riviting on would not work well on the edges of the scoops and spoiler, where they meet the body. Do people bolt these on using button heads bolts? And could you get to the back side of the body to install locknuts? Are rib nuts a possibility? Just wondering ahead of time what others have done installing these items and getting the paint right and the parts staying put on the body. Thanks in advance for any responses.

We mold spoilers on when we use them. The scoups are painted then rivited on, no they don't crack over time if prepped properly. We don't use them often, maybe 1 out of 3 cars.
I cleco'd everything in place and then we taped off the stripe etc. removed and painted. I would also recommend using screws as opposed to rivets. i chose stainless button heads with torx drive

I took delivery of my coupe on June 18th, 2016 and I thought that I was going to glass in the spoiler but now have decided to go with the rivet look (bolt and nut). I based my decision on the fact that I also wanted the scoops on the hood and wanted to match the look of the front and the back and I thought that the scoops looked best with the rivet look. As already stated, the spoiler is painted separately and then mounted after. All holes should be drilled prior to paint. I will say that trying to line everything up is an exercise in patience and do not expect the centerline of the back glass and the back car to line up. Several people have noted this issue. I feel lucky that mine was only off by a 1/4 inch. I seem to have an issue with posting a picture but you can follow my build on the other forum under Crazy 8 Coupe. Enjoy and good luck with the build.

I painted and mounted my scoops after assembly. They are riveted on with stainless steel rivets. I mounted the spoiler and painted it on the body, painting over the rivets. I like the look of the rivets rather than glassing in. That with the button head screws on the rear lexan gives it a more "race car" look, IMO.
Driving for close to two years and no issues with the paint on the rivets.

I used rivets on the spoiler prior to paint. I used stainless button head screws and nylock nuts on the scoops and painted them prior to mounting on the car.

I used polished buttonhead allen 6-32 machine screws, drilled and tapped the fiberglass. Did the same for all my scoops

Or, if you're a bit counter culture, you could leave the spoiler off and call it a '64 coupe.
