Please share what you're doing to cover the rear bulkhead. Padded like the dash? Carpet! Raw aluminum? Anything else?
I'm seriously thing of covering mine in dash material
Thanks

Carpet. I don't stray too far from the classic look. But I'm not period correct either.

I'm all carpet too with the exception of the following:
1. Dash & Lower Dash
2. Trans Tunnel Top
3. Slave Cylinder Access Panel
4. Door Cards With Mesh Map Pockets
I'm far from period correct, but trying to keep a classic look as well.

I actually did the vinyl that matches the dash and tunnel cover. Felt it was a cleaner look for my car. For some reason carpet high up is weird to me. And stuff sticks to it. You're doing such an authentic car though, what did the original have?

From what I can find, originals had Naugahyde on the rear bulkhead. My plan is to have the upper portion in Naugahyde and the lower portion in carpet (my cockpit bulkhead is quite a bit different than the FFR design)

Carpet with 4 billet shoulder belt guides on rear bulkhead. Top of tunnel & u-joint cover matches dash. Door panels match seat pleats.

I did carpet, but the exposed chassis tubes (mine's a Mk3.1) were covered in the same black leather I used on the dash and seats. I also had all the carpet, including the pieces I used on the rear bulkhead, edged by a local upholstery shop.
You're correct about the originals, in fact, they had a pocket / pouch behind the seats on the street cars that was used to hold the side curtains.
Also, as crazy as it sounds, the original seats had carpeted backs and slightly around on the sides - you can see it at the top of the seats in the S/C picture.
Here's a couple pics - mine and an original.....

This car is an original S/C, so it has the bump-out from the trunk and no pocket / pouch:

Here is my setup. The cockpit bulkhead consists of an upper panel with an access hole cut into it. I fabricated a frame from 1/2" x .063 6061 aluminum square tubing and riveted it to the panel from the back.
I was originally planning on carpeting the bulkhead and using dash material on the access panel. I've changed directions now. The frame and the access panel are painted satin black. The access panel screws into the frame with #6 black sheet metal screws.
After the car is complete I'll have the local auto upholsterer glue Naugahyde around the raised panel, and carpet on the lower section (not yet installed).

I was thinking that the originals had carpet like they have on the back of the seats. I went looking for pictures. It is really hard to find a good picture of the rear bulkhead. Most shots are of the dash. Which is what I have stared at when looking at originals too.
I found a good shot of CSX2000 and it is vinyl with exposed screws at the top. I found one or two of a 427 and they look like vinyl from what I can see. Hard to see since the bulkhead is back further.

I think it would look really good if you just had the Vinyl on the top rear section with carpet on the bottom.
That's My 2 Cents!

I thought it was corinthian leather

Best shot I have from my visit to Shelby in December.
