I started the engine in the coupe for the first time late this afternoon. I had this engine in a Fox Mustang for a few years. It's a 351 Windsor and dyno'd at 438 flywheel horsepower. AFR heads, custom ground Comp hydraulic roller, all the cool stuff, blah, blah.

It has a new intake manifold and new fuel injection and I expect it to make a bit more power. I ditched the Ford EEC IV system, because of hood clearance, and went with a FiTech Power Adder system.

Within five minutes it was idling better than it ever did with the Ford fuel injection. I haven't driven it yet but so far I am impressed with FiTech.

And it really sounds good! Sorry, no video.

Harold,

Congrats! Always cool to know there is another coupe running! Speaking of hood clearance ... doesn't look like that air cleaner is going to work.

Garry,

It does clear the hood, by about 1/8th of an inch on the sides.

Harold,

Glad to hear that it fits! I had a 351 stroker in my coupe and had to use an Edelbrock Performer low rise, dual plane intake ... my air cleaner had about 1/4" clearance on the top. Tight fit but it worked.

That's a nice milestone to have reached. I appreciate the feedback on the fuel injection setup as well.

Congrats it is a great feeling when you turn the key and she starts right up.

I love the look of your engine simple clean and old school just right.

Maybe just this car, but you get the point.
Congratulations!

I have the FiTech on order ( they are on back order) and hopefully get it this month. We had fuel starving issues in the hard turns at the last track event. Fuel injection should fix that. I can then put the carb back on my 66 mustang I borrowed it from.

Congrats on the first start. Great to finally hear it come to life.

That's the intake I'm using. Yes it's tight but I didn't want to cut up the hood.

Thanks Jacob.

My wife and I went to the symposium at the Simeone Museum for the preservation work they had done on CSX2287. That's what really made me want it to look '60's. I'm glad you like it. I'm going to redo the plug wires so that they come down the center of the valve covers.

Yes, I do get it. Things will be even more right when I slap some tires on it and do a gnarly burnout in the driveway.

Thanks everyone.

Hey Harold,

How about some video of that beast! We want to hear it roar.

My fitech has finally shipped. Which header tube did you attach the 02 sensor to?

I put it on the passenger side, the lower header pipe. Just after the pipes from cylinders 3 and 4 merge.

That's where I decided to put it also. Thanks for info. I have everything installed except running the vent from the fuel center back to the tank. It fired right up but I have not driven it yet without the vent.
