Hey Gang,

As you all know, back in the day Factory Five made a drop top version of the Type-65 Coupe known as the Spyder.
While that car has yet to be resurrected, my question is: How Many Were Built?
It was such a good looking car that it's a shame that it never took root.
Wouldn't It Be Great If It Returned?

I'd probably choose one over a roadster if they became available again.

Gordon,

Thanks for posting the pics.

Also, for the record that was the car that I wanted to build since nobody would have known what it was so maybe that's also the reason for it's demise. I think that my Chevy Drivetrain Combo would have fit that car a bit better from an acceptance perspective. The extra inches in the wheel base would have been nice to have too.

Thanks Again!

Steve

I see a pic of one of those every two years or so and always wonder why it didn't sell. I guess it just lacks an easily ID'd pseudo pedigree. From an autocrosser perspective you get a longer wheel base, tilt front, much wider fenders( the coupe will easily accept 315 front and 335 rear). What's not to like?

On the link there is a post that identifies " around 6 or 7 completed, the rest being in various stages of completion, most never started a build." Since then, are there still kits that people have that were never started?

My daily driver is and has been for 21 years a 1995 C-4 Corvette Drop Top so you can understand why the Spyder appealed so much to me. The wheelbase, flip front end, stiff chassis plus the ability to stuff even bigger tires on it compared to my now very long in the tooth ride is just what this customer wanted.

My problem was it took me too long to recover from Hurricane Katrina so the kit was out of production long before I was able to afford it.

For the record, when I ordered my MK-4, I begged them to build me a Spyder, but it was long gone so a "Chevy Cobra" is now about to be born!

If They Ever Bring It Back I'll Be Their First Customer!
