Well I have my MK4 all primed and prepped ready for paint, If the weather stays good I'll do it on Sunday, Planning on getting up early to try and get done before it gets to hot out, It's been in the 90's here. I have to say I am really nervous about it, I am not A painter but I am going to give it a try. I figure if I screw it up I'll just buy more paint and try it again. Got A friend at work who does restorations on the side that has been tutoring me along. If all goes well I'll post a pict on Sunday evening. Pray for me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That's the spirit - nothing that can't be re-done if you're not happy with it. Good on you for taking on this part of the build!!!!

Go for it, Vladik!

We had a guy in the Phoenix area paint his own roadster a few years ago...I don't recall what size roller he used...:p

Thanks,
Will

Thanks for the support. It's going to be A Bright Blue Metallic with Wimbelton white stripes. It was A toss up between that or Red with White strips, Then A couple weeks ago I seen a red one around town so blue it is.

Good luck Vlad. Mine is in for paint right now so I know how excited you must be!! Good choice with blue and white. I have been staring at my red gel coat for so long that it ruled out red as a paint color.

Good luck. Painting is an art and a feeling, assuming you have the technical details worked out (temperature, right paint, etc). Several years ago, I painted several sailboats. Here are my thoughts/suggestions from that experience.

1. You need good light so you can see the paint flowing out. I found this to be the most critical element.
2. Proper ventilation and clean, filtered air.
3. To keep the dust down, wet the floor.
4. Use a moisture trap in the line from the compressor to the gun.

That said, I was spraying Imron paint which is not cut, buffed, and clear coated. So I had to get it right the first time. And the boats were hanging from the overhead lift, so any dust settling didn't get on the hull. I was painting upside down. If you have access to a professional paint shop, go for it rather than the garage with air conditioner filters and a window fan.

I am excited to see your paint job. However, I clicked on your link, and received this message:

I can't help you with the technology solution to this, but I did want to let you know!

It looks great; well done! I bet it feels great to have it all wrapped up.

I like the blue floors, it will serve as a reminder of your hard work.

Congratulations on completing a task that I wish I had the talent to pull off!

Steve

Congrats - nothing ventured, nothing gained. I remember as a kid - that my Dad painted a TR4 in the garage and we had beautiful burgundy misted floors. Well done!

It was hotter than hell that day, Put 3 coats on and walked away, came back about 4 hours later and found some bad spots so I did a very light wet sand and shot it one more time that night. came out pretty good. next step is stripes and clear coat.

So far it looks great! I sure wish I had the talent for paint... heck, any type of bodywork would be great! Excellent job!
