I am looking at purchasing some aftermarket harnesses. I found an orange set that will match my stripe. I recently rode with a guy that had colored seatbelts and I really liked the color accent it added.

I'm curious about the crotch strap in the 5 point harness. I notice my complete kit came with 5 point harnesses but the build manual seems to show only installing the lap belt and shoulder harnesses. Is there some issue with being able to install the crotch strap? I am getting the high back Kirkey race seats if that makes a difference. The aftermarket set I am looking at is also a 5 point.

Honestly I prefer the 5 point. I wear one every time I work and I don't like how the buckle rides up if you don't have the crotch strap attached. I am so early in my build I haven't paid close attention to how the seat belts actually install other than noticing the directions don't seem to mention the 5th point.

I guess I hadn't noticed the antisubmarine belt (crotch belt...) isn't in the build manual. I've installed them on each of my builds. They are critical to the safety of the 5-point system. For the standard seats, the steel seat plate on the chassis is just far enough forward to bolt the antisubmarine belt in the proper position per Simpson's installation instructions. I mount my seats to the floor about as far back as they will go. I'm not sure how guys that use sliders on their seats are able to get the antisubmarine belt properly installed. Maybe by leaving it off? I hope not. The other four attachment points are quite straightforward. The only thing a little strange (but it works) is for the inner lap belt attachments, you need to drill through the aluminum trans side wall. It's shown in the manual. 1/2-inch as I recall. The belt attachment just fits between the anchor tab and the sidewall, with the nut attached from inside the transmission tunnel.

I haven't attached the sub belt yet as it's not quite long enough to bolt into the frame under the seat and clip together withy the other belts. Likely because I have my seat a little off the rear cockpit wall as I'm not tall and need to get a bit closer for the clutch. Likely I'll need to add some steel under the seat to bolt it to.
