Did anybody see the Red Cobra Replica sell for, I believe 90 K last night ? I didn't see the whole segment and don't know what kind of replica it was.
Just curious.

I saw it but they didn't really say what exactly it was. They said something about it having BMW suspension.

I saw the grey and black stripe continuation Cobra sell for 39 or 40 if I recall correctly. The color/options were less than appealing which probably hurt it somewhat.

The red Cobra with the black racing stripe that went for 90K was the one with BMW suspension. It also had really different, but interesting headlights.

I got a quick glimpse of the review of sales. Couldn't tell from the front, but my bet is it's a Backdraft. They use the BMW IRS setup.

Yep - It was a Backdraft. Pretty sweet too.

Backdraft Racing For Sure!

Since these cars a built in a controlled facility, they do have the repeatability of an actual manufacturer; however, their chassis are a bit lacking.
Basic rectangular space frame with a fiberglass body sitting on top like most other AC / Cobra replicas.
If you dig up an image of their chassis, you will likely be less than impressed.

I think I read that the IRS from 3-series cars is used by Backdraft. Don't know what years, or new parts vs. old parts. Somehow I can't imagine Backdraft scrounging around in salvage yards, so I'm guessing new parts. Another factor in the high cost of Backdrafts.

I to was also at the event, there were a few Cobras there nothing too impressive. Also stopped by the factory five tent and chatted with the staff....a bunch of good people who were generally interested in my build and asked a lot questions about my build.

A Factory Five '33 crossed the block for $66k. Looked like a nice car on the tv.

There were several Backdrafts participating in the charity rides down main street at the London Cobra Show yesterday. Absolute rockets. I don't know much about what drivetrain components are under them, but obviously able to handle quite high power. I had a chance to look them over. I'm not giving up my FF's and the more authentic frame design plus getting to build myself. But they were quite impressive IMO.

BTW, the FF grey (silver?) and yellow Coyote powered demo Roadster also made a number of runs. Dave did one, and then other FF guys did a bunch. Fresh off the Hot Rod Power Tour. It too was quite impressive.

This is what I could pull off of the Backdraft Website.

Interesting concept, but not as impressive under the skin
