What is the best wiring harness? Is the Ron Fracis harness worth it or is the painless 12 circuit good enough for half the money?

"Best" is relative and depends. Do you want one purpose made for the car or do you want a universal one? Also depends on how many changes you plan to make from what's provided on the Ron Francis harness. Wiring is routinely cited as the most difficult part of the build. Unless you're knowledgeable and experienced with such things, I'd opt for the Ron Francis harness. Don't know your timing. They come up for sale occasionally.

Thanks for getting back to me. How much is the RF harness once on sale and is it a fall in place harness or still a pain?

Depends on what you're doing with it and whether you are looking for a plug-and-play or something more of a DIY set-up. I used the Ron Francis harness for most of the car, but added quite a few custom circuits, as well as integrated a reproduction '65 Mustang engine harness for the front half of the car - both for appearance sake and for the plug-and-play compatibility with things like the old-school voltage regulator, solenoid, alternator, etc.... I found the Ron Francis harness to be very conducive to the mods that I did - and I was a first-time electrical newbie.

I meant for sale in the forum classifieds. Hundreds off sometimes, but not super common. Again "fall in place" is extremely relative. I don't mean to be vague, but every build is different. What dash layout used, even simple things like where you choose to locate your ignition switch or headlights, what additional circuits you may want to add, etc. If it doesn't fall into place (this or anything else) it doesn't mean it's a pain. It's just how you choose to build your car. This isn't a snap together model.

Just to throw my two cents in, my kit came with the Ron Francis harness and it was very easy to hook up.
There was even enough room for me to relocate it to the passenger side and everything has been routed in a neat and tidy fashion.
Being a first-time builder I appreciate the plug and play design of this harness.
Having clear and concise directions made it even better.

I integrated the RF harness with the COYOTE package harness with very little splicing. 99% was a plug in. Where you need to go out of system the instructions are excellent with well done full color wiring diagrams.

IIRC the only extra buy I had to make were jumpers for the O2 sensors. Was lazy & did not want to open the wire bundles to extract extra length from the existing harness. There is a specialty company that will build the jumpers with full locking plug connects in custom lengths very, very inexpensively. Think my custom pair were about $25/30.

The RF harness is generous in the length of the various wires so a lot of movement of components is doable without having to splice in extra length. Personally believe a universal setup would be a real pain in the butt to install.

Take a look at Haywire, Inc (http://www.haywireinc.com/). Very pleased with what they supplied to me

I've built with a few different harnesses and am a big fan of the Ron Francis option. Not completely "plug & play" but as close as you're going to find.

I like Mustang Medic's harness as he will build you one how ever you want it, quality harness at a very very reasonable price

same here!! just added circuits i chose...seat heater, 12v/usb charger, reverse light etc. most electrical issues i had were self inflicted.....did spend 2 hours chasing a blown fuse. just took it page by page.
