Hi,

for whatever reason the system is not allowing me to upload the picture with my problem, but i think i can describe it:
we are using the standard 15" wheels, BUT, after putting together the rear suspension (3-way link) the shock base (bottom part) and the spring support within the upper part of the shock, both hit the wheel not allowing it
to even to rest flat against the "disk", i read about the same problem happening tho other folks here, however i being trying to find a post regarding how to "adjust" the suspension enough for the wheels to not hit, but
no luck... any input guys??

thank you in advance :)

Mike

Sounds like the offset of your wheels is causing the problem. What brand wheels are they? Any idea what the offset is? I remember years ago people used to modify the lower bracket to clear 15 inch wheels.

We need more info. on your setup.

Are you using donor axles or those provided by Factory Five?

What wheels, as mentioned below?

Do you have the rear axle centered in the frame? And of course, pictures are best.

the wheels where directly sent from factory five, and so far no idea regarding the offset :(

Hi Michael, I'm Rick Millers Brother from #8442. I helped Rick on his build and looking at your pictures, it looks like your mounting point on the rear lower shocks is incorrect. The lower shocks should mount inside boxed frame and you have them mounted on the rear of boxed in area. Check the pic on #8442 page 2 showing the lower shock mount.

Your assembly looks fine. That has got to be the nicest garage I have ever seen. That's more like a studio. Or, are you building it in your living room?

Make sure you have your suspension complete before you try and put your wheels on. Your three link brace and panhard bar will get everything lined up.

Good morning!

that probably explained my problem, when i mount them couldn't find a single "clear" picture for that particular mounting place, need to try it. :o Sorry for my next question and with the risk of sounding the dumbest guy here.. what is #8442? and how can i search it?, please don't laugh, jejejeje i am doing it for you, it remind me a joke of an old lady calling her daughter of how to get the computer files into the "trash bin" sitting next to her feet :P
have a great day and thank you for your time

The only thing that I see different from my assembly is that I installed the shocks with the springs on top. There have been cases where the shocks oriented like yours has caused some interference. You might try turning the shocks over. Springs on top.

If your axle is centered in the frame and you are still hitting then it's time to call Factory Five. I can not tell if the top of the wheel is being held out more than the bottom causing the contact with the LCA bracket. When installed properly the clearance on the bottom to the wheel is approx. 1/4".

#8442 is reference to the serial number of my brothers car. I know you looked at his build because you commented on his Goodyear billboard tires. You can find his build thread in the roadster build tread forum. Looks like you now have the lower end of the shocks in the correct position, in your spark thread, it looked like they were out of position.

...what is #8442? and how can i search it?

That's the build sequence number, and how most of us refer to our Roadster. It's part of the chassis number assigned by Factory Five. If you don't know it already, your chassis number should be on the paperwork somewhere, and you will receive a serial number tag and MSO with your chassis number if you haven't already. If you look on the 2 x 2 inch tube along the bottom of the dash -- about where your left knee would be sitting in the driver's seat -- you should see an engraved number. It should be obvious because they mask the powder coat away from it. That's your chassis number. Starts with "F5R." The last four digits are the build sequence number, and the ones most use referring to their car. Mine is #8674, for example.

For searching this site, the built-in search engine isn't the best IMO. I use Google to search the site. Go to Google.com. In the search window type "site:http://thefactoryfiveforum.com xxxx" (without the parentheses and xxxx = the search term you want to use). You'll get a list of search hits you can go to. Works very well.

Don from Factory five finally found the problem.

Update:

Michael,

FFR has sure come a long way - I'm 7074RD.

I have a rear end out of a '94 SVT Cobra, but with the shorter "Fox" axles as I was originally using the 17x10.5 wheels. That modified rear end still works with my FFR supplied 15x8 Halibrand replicas. Here are some pictures of my rear shock and panhard assembly - hopefully you will find these helpful when the correct rear end arrives.

No. Sorry, my explanation wasn't exact enough. The last four numeric digits. Mine current build is F5R1008674RD. So the build number is 8674.

Michael

FFR is great about making things right for you. I had a few incorrect parts and they shipped immediately once i notified them. Your Build will be referred to 8879. I believe they started with ser 1000 so yours is the 7879 th built.

Your moving along quickly with the build. Congrats
