View Full Version : License plate light location
Hi folks, what did I do wrong here? The light can only go in one location. Why does my plate cover the trunk latch? I can't imagine that Indiana plates are bigger than any other state. 55051

you are correct. search and you will find the mighty jeff kleiner modification. I chose to eliminate the light altogether and used LED fasteners55053

FFR made modifications to the trunk lid to better resemble the original. This left less room for the plate. I added a license plate frame, cut a hole for the latch and attached led back up lights. That worked well for me.55056

I used a combination of notching the plate & opening a slot in the light lens. The slot is sealed with clear silicone sealer.

I thought about notching the lens but a Pennsylvania State trooper referred me to a regulation that the state name cannot be obstructed. He said it is not always enforced and has given breaks to drivers with frames highlighting sports teams or the dealer name and similar but he said on a bad day or if the person gave him trouble, he might not be so lenient. He said you could also get an additional fine if you are caught by a traffic camera and the state name cannot be read. Something to think about.
