I was going over the installation instructions for installing the fuel cap for my 289 roadster and notice that it has no seal around the fuel cap and body. Is this correct, that mean that the trunk is open to water?

Hello,

Just talked with Jim in R&D and there is no seal around the fuel cap. You can add a bulb seal around the underside if your prefer.

Retropt,
Check out Eric Hansen's build thread. As he explained to me, he took the ring that has the bolt pattern of the LeMans cap to use as a pattern to drill the holes through the body. Bolted the cap to the body, and connected the rubber filler hose inside. I don't think he even used the metal frame that was intended to support the cap on the inside of the trunk. Eric could explain it better since he's already done it. The pictures of his car, when he got it back from Da Bat, show the finished product the best. Solves the issue of having a penetration from the top of the body into the trunk. Pain in the a** if you get caught in the rain, etc.
