Well it finally begin to come together. April the 19 the trooper showed up at the house about 8:30 AM and annouced that he had my paper work. He looked at the car and checked to see that the vin # assigned matched the chassi serial #. Asked if it had a door post to put the vin plate on, and we settled on an acceptable location and riveted it on. Now with title in hand I headed for town to the DMV office to get it registered and tagged. I was soon on my way back home with the desired items. The tags were afixed and now I'm in the roadster headed to my mechanic who then performed an insp and put a sticker on the windshield. Then its on to town again to fillerup with fuel and get a professdional front alignment. After driving around some (it was a beautiful warm day) I headed back to the house.
The next several days were rainy but on Monday the 24th I pulled her out again (suns shining ) and about 0930 I head out on my first road trip. I'm heady to whitby's in Greensboro NC to turn it over to Jeff for paint. I'm watching the gages the whole way as this is only the second drive and the first one of any distance (about 150 miles). It is fairly uneventful. There was this one honda load of youngsters (I'm 65 in August) that went by agawking and pointing spiritedly; then there was the guy in a red twin turbo something or other that pullup along side and did the speed up-slow down thing several times; he was maybe trying to challenge me, but I ignored him as I was still keeping a close eye on all of my gages. He pulled away quickly but I passed him about five miles down the road. He was sitting on the shoulder having a discussion with a NC state trooper. I arrived at Whitby's without incident and Jeff and I talked about the car, the paint scheme and colors, and my wife and daughter arrived to ferry me back home. It was a great trip, except for burning my leg on the side pipe when I got out at Jeffs. Duh !! watch the pipes.
Then on May 17 What was supposed to be a routine nuclear cardiac stress test at the Heart center in Kingsport TN, became on the 18th an emergency, open heart, quadruple bypass operation at Holston Valley Med center in Kingsport TN. I had one 90% blockage but it was in a four way intersection that supplied blood to over 80% of my heart muscle. Thanks to an excellent surgical team and the grace of a loving God I came through ok and was released home on the 23rd. I am recuperating slowly but surely. I am restricted to NO driving for 6 weeks but the end of that time period matches approximately when Jeff promised my car would be finished with paint. So I am eagerly awating that time.
Here are some pics of what it looked like when I gave it up to Jeff at Whitby's
