Just call me "Eggo". I have been waffling back and forth for years about what I am going to build. I have bought Mustangs for the purpose of using them as a donor car. Only to sell them for one reason or another. Whether it was I am going to use all new parts, do a V8 swap in (fill in the blank), or just can't seem to make up my mind which Factory Five kit to build. Should it be a Roadster? The support network on this forum and others is extensive and I've always wanted to own one. How about a 818? Price is right, but I wanted that deep V8 rumble. Although it is one beautiful car! Then there is the Coupe; stunning, unique, but is it a more complicated build? What are the pros and cons for each one from your perspective?

The first Roadster Hot Rods where simple with an open top and no wipers, heat, A/C, and built for fun. These cars are a lot like them and the analogy can be applied to all of the models available. But to make the decision on one model over the other, you first have to ask yourself, if you have the opportunity and resources to build one of these cars, how long do you want to be a spectator? In the end it is a gut decision and not a rational one. You live life only once and what do you want to drive while you are living it?

Just getting going on my build so don't have much to offer on pros and cons. Best thing I did was talk to some builders and find some guys local to see their cars and get a feel for what I liked. You mentioned V8s a couple times so maybe your subconscious is pulling you towards a roadster or coupe. haha
The forum feedback is great. Every stupid question I have come up with so far has been answered very thoroughly by people here. A very nice community of people willing to help.

Where in Alabama are you located? I am in Auburn.
There is a guy on the forum named Wayne Presley that is in Enterprise. He is a good person to talk to. I exchanged some emails with him and he was very nice. From what I gather he is quite knowledgeable on all the FFR products. He has a website. It is verycoolparts.com.

:confused:It's a tough question:confused:. Only you will be able to decide the answer ultimately. I can tell you there is one fact that is hard to miss. The Cobra is one of the most universally recognized car styles after the VW Beatle. Even when the person can't exactly name it, they recognize it as something very special. If it weren't for the replica industry keeping the 60s icon visible to the public, it wouldn't be quite as in the public consciousness but the fact that that industry sprung up in itself makes it special. I have never seen a car get so much attention from such diverse types of people. Even very young children who can barely talk will look and point.

I own a roadster for different reasons like how it drives and the fun of working on it (make mods to improve it's performance). I don't mind the attention most of the time but it can get old when someone is cutting you off on the freeway to get a pic. I've had all kinds of hot rods but this one is the one that will always be in my garage. Even after driving exotics and an Indy like car (driving experience), there is no substitute for the roadster. I may have gotten bitten more severely than some to feel the way I do but so be it.

BTW: forgot to mention that this is a short wheel base, high HP/wt ratio, very, very quick car. If you want a challenge as a driver, it's for you. If not you might be more comfortable in a vette or something like that.

Good luck figuring it out!
