View Full Version : Clutch Pedal Interference Question

For my MKIV kit, I'm installing the pedal box and the clutch pedal is hitting the 3/4" square frame member that passes by at an angle on the left at about 1.5" below the clutch pedal pivot point. The pedal contacts the frame when at about 1/2 of the way through its travel. Is this ok? Shouldn't it be able to swing back to where the pedal arm hits the front of the foot box, or at least until the clutch cable pulling assembly mounted to the top of the pedal completes it's available travel?
Many thanks for any advice or help you might have!
Marty,
This is an issue it seems for MKIV and if you search the forums you will see other folks solutions (some notch the clutch pedal or cut or notch the frame). The latter is what I did and then welded another channel to add support to the notched area.

People seem to be split 50/50 on whether to cut the 3/4 tube or trim the pedal. It is pretty much personal choice. That horse has been beaten to death in the forums.

Search here and on the other forum to get all the options.

As stated, this has been beaten to death on both forums. Here's one of the more recent threads: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?19684-What-is-your-solution-for-the-Willwood-Clutch-pedal-frame-interference-problem

Marty,
A quick way to search the forum whether this one or the other one is to:
1. Enter the URL of the forum you want to search in your browser search window followed by a colon ...
thefactoryfiveforum.com:
2. After the colon enter the item you are searching for ...
thefactoryfiveforum.com: Roadster clutch pedal interference
3. Press Enter
You should get something like this as a result:

I just used this method to get the above results. Note that even though I used this forum it also searched the other one as well.

Hey Doug - I ordered my MK4 kit, delivery around 1st week of August. Got the Wilwoods and saw this thread with your picture of the notch and video. I copied both into my gmail ID for future reference, so thanks for posting them!!! Looks like the best way to go is to notch the pedal and shouldn't have to worry about it losing strength. Great pictures and good advice from everyone who has experienced the problem.

This is the way I did mine. (I got the project partially completed, with the 3/4 tube already cut away. I just strengthened it.)
