Hey everyone. New MKII owner from southern Maine here. I just bought a very low mileage MkII and have been getting to know it by driving it around this past weekend. I took her out today for a drive and on the way home I heard something fall off, hit the road, and bounce back and hit the undercarriage.

I pulled over and found the part, but I have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

That's the paddle for the hood latch. Open up the hood and you'll see one missing.

Cam from hood latch. One on each side.

May want to add a bit of lock-tite to both of them, once you get it back together.

And, may be a good time to spend an afternoon doing a nut-and-bolt check.

Agreed. The car has low miles, but like many things in life, it pays to be proactive vs. reactive.

By all means do a complete pre-flight check.Jack it up and look close, like your going to buy it.And get use to doing it often. Its cheap insurance :)

Double D,

Here is a solution for this particular problem (see cotter pins in pics). You can't fool proof everything but this one you can.

Good luck with the rest of your project,
