OK Gents,

I have taken my first step towards my Type 65. Over the weekend, I took possession of a 1968 302 my father-in-law has owned since then. Never been re-built, but it did go through a flood. Only 2 spark plugs had rust, so I am optimistic she can be saved since is is getting bored out anyway. Wish me luck!!!!

My first of many questions to come is where can I get a complete list of hardware(fasteners) that are on this thing? I have found torque specs galore, sizes for bell housings, sizes for heads, etc. etc., but not a complete list of stock hardware. Anyone no where I can get one on the internet?

Thanks in advance!
Robert

Robert,

It depends on if your speaking of all of the external fasteners, or the basic engine fasteners, ie. Head Bolts/Studs, Main Cap, Bolts/Studs, rod end bolts, etc. Most of the fasteners can be bought thru the ARP line-up, for all of the internal fasteners, and some of the bolts for the manifold, and bell housing also. As for the accessories, Alternator, water pump, A/C, etc, you can use whats on the motor now, or new ones usually come with new mounts, if you're using something like a March set-up. You can find some bolt kits thru the Mustang restoration stores, but they are usually not real high quality, close to OEM, but sometimes your getting Chines Re-pop stuff, so be careful.

Over the weekend I talked with a guy that took a local engine building class and he showed me what he had in mind to build using a 302. He knows it will propably cost him a bit more to build then to buy but he's enjoying the aspect he's doing it and he can build exactly what he wants.

Ah yes I remember those day's it was fun. Now I've just gotten older, lazyer, and poorer. But engine building was great fun.

Just a note. The stock oil pan on that early 302 will not work in the coupe frame as it is now. You will need to modifiy it be like the pans on the late 80's, early 90's 5.0s.

Hay Robert back to the origional question. I don't think there is A single fastner on A 68 302 that you can not reuse. just clean them up.
