I watched the dyno session. For comparison purposes, the ecoboost made about the same power as my basically stock 2007 WRX EJ255 with a tune (only mods I have are TGV delete, custom 3" exhaust with no cat, fuel rails, different turbo inlet pipe with Cobb MAF housing and filter). Ecoboost was 280/309 while my EJ255 was 269/322. Running a $300 used VF turbo would have probably put me at about 300/340, and of course, plenty of other turbo options if you want to go even bigger. Perhaps more is available out of the stock Ecoboost by turning up the boost and adjusting the tune.... not really sure.

I think the ecoboost will be a good option when you can get them cheaper used. For now I don't see them being cost effective.

So stock sti... And you have the same power of the ecoboost and you don't lose your low CG. No tranny adapter. And better yet it's available. The ecoboost is not going to be an option for anyone until Ford makes the motor crate available. Until then this was a big PR effort on FFR for the 818 and Ford partnership.

It doesn't solve the intercooler problem. Personally I'd like to see a 200 to 250 RWHP NA engine in an 818 more than anther turbo option. I'm trying to simplify my race cars and turbos/superchargers add an entirely higher level of complexity.

By going ecoboost, do the harness options increase? From what i see, most of the time in building an 818 is spent on cleaning the harness and cabling. Either spend 1-2k on new cabling or 50-100 hours :(
I'm guessing with the ecoboost harnesses are much more abundant and cheaper.

Not really abundant or cheaper as they have yet to be released.

But wouldn't they be based on the general ford harness?

When it's released, I believe the 2.3 ecoboost crate motor will come with a harness for the engine.
still would have to do lightning and stuff based on Subaru steering column and dash cluster.

@ 02:02 in the movie they talk about using a 6 speed STi transmission. I was under the impression that this wasn't supported. Can someone clear that up for me? I have a 2004 STi I have been thinking about using for an 818, but up until now I thought it was only a partial donor.

Is there room in the engine compartment for the ford V6 they are putting in the mustang. If there is this would seem like an easy way to get over 300 HP without all the turbo headaches. I don't know what the engine sounds like, but the V6 in the new camaro sounds badass.

Here is a link to the 2.0 ecoboost with controls pack. It includes a complete package to run the motor including the accelerator pedal.

Bob they used a flaming river column (or similar) with a painless kit (or similar) probably GM universal stuff for the lights and accessories. Then the control pack to run the engine. way simpler than using a Subaru column/any Subaru parts.

That's because they don't know how to wire the car up cleanly to get the Subaru stuff working. This 818 was pretty much catalog built not donor.

I'd love to build an 818, but after watching the video I believe it is way easier to take on a MK-4 build.
Hats off to you guys that are building these cars or the GTM because they look rather tough to me.

Sorry, to be clear I meant running ecoboost on the road.....not the dyno! Has it run on a track or the road?
