Welcome to the board.

Assuming you are talking about new construction, currently in NJ you need to submit paperwork with your receipts and build details to the state, and then pass a mechanical inspection at one of three facilities. From that inspection you get a title, and I believe they are currently titled as a 2011 remanufactured vehicle.

With title in hand you can now register the vehicle, and it is not eligable for collector car status. That was changed around 2008 to specifically rule out replicas and kit cars. With that in mind the only option is standard vehicle registration and then the car must pass emissions testing based on the year of the engine block.

I believe then with a 2006 title you would be able to transfer the title, and register as a 2006 replicia, not as a collector car. The biggest issue would be the year of the engine block and if it had the proper emissions equipment for the engine year.

That is correct..............The year of the block will be the key as to what emissions your car will need to pass inspection in NJ.
