Hey Gang,

We just a little paint work done on my son's 2000 Camaro.
We painted the roof black to make the car look a little more like an SS and/or Z-28 model
My painting pal tried a new clear coat that he said went on really easy and the roof now looks like a black mirror.

The clear is listed below if any of you are interested along with BASF's description:

R-M introduces RMC5000 new general purpose clearcoat.

Attractively priced product combines great gloss and ease-of-use

SOUTHFIELD, MI, February 4, 2016 – R-MŽ automotive refinish recently introduced RMC5000, a clear coat from BASF, that is easy to apply and provides exceptional gloss. It is available for National Rule markets and is priced to compete with alternative clearcoats, while maintaining R-M’s lifetime warranty.

“Developed with productivity and cost effective repairs in mind, the easy-to-use formula of RMC5000 allows painters of all skill levels to achieve excellent results without any special training,” said Mike Freeman, BASF, R-M Market Segment Manager. “Paint technicians can easily achieve the wet look on repairs ranging from spot and panels to large surface areas.”

RMC5000 is a medium solids, two component acrylic urethane clear developed to topcoat Diamont or ONYX HD basecoats. RMC5000 is available through the automotive refinish distribution network. To locate a distributor near you, visit basfrefinish.com and click on the “Find the Distributor” link.

Hey Gang,

Just want to give you a quick update on this clear coat.
I stopped by my pal's shop this afternoon and he said he's switching everything over to the RMC5000.
He's been in business since 1978 and still going strong, but mostly doing insurance collision work these days.
Dependable Paint & Body / Slidell / La 70458.

Steve

PS: He said I could even do a good job with this stuff and I don't know how to paint, other than with a brush or rattle can.

Hey All,

I wanted to bring this back to the top of the forum.

A few months ago we had a little work done on my son's car and so far the clear coat still looks wetter than wet. The Painter (Dennis) at my friend's shop says it still is the easiest he has ever used; however, it does require multiple passes and can be a bit tough to tell where he started and stopped. Dennis also stated that sometimes he does use the previous clear coat depending on his mood and the color of the vehicle that he's spraying.

Hope This Information Is Helpful!

Steve
