Hey guys! Starting my official build thread since I purchased what I hope will be my donor car for my MkIV roadster (kit still to be purchased soon!).
Today my dad and I drove our race trailer a couple hours to pick up a 1998 GT that had an entire Cobra drivetrain swap minus the brakes. The engine and transmission have less than 60k miles on them, and the rear end had less than 50k since it was rebuilt with 4.10s. The car has taken a decent shot on the right front, so I am not expecting to be able to use much off the right front corner. Nothing under the hood was damaged, including the radiator. I got the engine up to temp and ran the RPMs up listening for any noises that might indicate under the hood issues and I didn't hear any. I actually drove the car (very very slowly bc of the damage) to load it into the trailer and never heard any odd noises out of the tranny or rear end. Tranny is smooth moving into each gear. Clutch is only 4 months old.
Maybe I got one pulled over on me, but for what I paid I feel confident that even if I punt the idea of using this car that I will be able to part this car out and get my money back.
She's in the garage for the night, and hopefully tomorrow night I will begin dis-assembly of some of the body. Mainly I want to get the right front damaged fender off to finish fully assessing what can't be used/parted out. Pretty pumped up!
(The wheels were not the wheels in the accident. He wanted to keep those, so those are his old wheels that had been sitting around for awhile. I do not plan on using them for the roadster as they 18's, but I may go through the process of cleaning/painting them myself to sell them. Time will tell.)
