I am in the process of installing a new motor and I am switching from my original Mallory distributor/coil to an MSD 6AL.

1. I am using the wiring diagram in the MSD directions "Installing to a Points/Ignition Amplifier Style Ignition"
*** First and foremost does anyone disagree with this? ***

2. I am having trouble landing in the above schematic is the "white" wire. Per the above schematic it says it should go to the "Original - Coil Wire." Problem is that my original - coil wire was the Purple/White wire (# 923) leading directly to my tachometer (I have a Smiths tach.) In the MSD schematic it shows the Gray wire coming out of the MSD box should go to the tach.

3. My other question is the "Heavy Black" - wire leading into the MSD ignition. It says it should go to the - battery but my battery is in the trunk and grounded beneath the truck floor. What should I do here?
Obviously missing something here. Can anyone help?

1. Not sure about the first question because you don't mention what distributor you have. I've wired two of those boxes, but always with an MSD magnetic pickup distributor. That's a different diagram.

2. No, I don't believe the coil wire referenced is the same as the tach wire you mentioned. You will have a direct wire between your tach and the gray wire in the MSD box.

3. Home running the MSD box to the battery assures it will get constant clean power. Power issues are the number one reason for box failure, at least according to MSD, which is why they recommend wiring that way. But I understand your issue. Do you have a firewall mounted solenoid? You could attach to the battery connection there.
