How are you able to copy threads from other places that are still relevant and could be extremely useful? I have seen some already up here?

Other places like the other forum? I doubt that will happen. I think that most will be watching and participating in both forums for quite a while. Obviously the other forum will be best for research for quite a while until this one has time to develop.

copy/paste? hehe

I'm sure there is some mysql/php script out there (or one could write one) that could dump all the pages and threads onto a local harddrive to re-create them. But that goes beyond my meager sql/php abilities

In my opinion, directly copying the data stored on ffcars on a massive scale by using some script/program and then using that data on a competing forum would constitute Theft and could result in a lawsuit and likely criminal charges. Not a good idea..

I would agree. I would imagine that the content of the other forum would belong to its owners.

HMM.. Not to stir a pot.. But now that I think about it... Who owns what I write on a forum? Is it me, the forum owner, etc.. Lets just say I write some great novel into a forum today.. Can the owner take it and sell it? Or, If I decided to publish it, would the forum owner have rights to it?

This may be getting off topic for the build thread.. I was just thinking about that What is your best build tip thread and was thinking it would be cool to have.. Idea: I'll just start a new one...

Its very easy to dump the entire site...there are apps like backstreet browser that will download everything off a web server keeping the folder structure intact, that's a free app.
With a little know how and a bit of time it is very easy to recreate a website.

but why bother?

How about this for an example, yesterday I found my wife updating her banking information...she received an email from scotiabank saying her account was locked from too many password attempts. The fake website was a perfect reproduction of the original banking website.

Really, ffcars will be around forever...it will just see fewer hits as time goes by.

That said, if you have a build thread on there you hate to lose...grab it...why not. But the entire site...no.

Guy's it is already being done. Rod dv/dt has already copied two of his build threads over to here. Mind you he can only copy those that he has access to being his own posts, but it is not that big a deal. I have thought about moving over my battery box, 5-link install, full roll bar and horn button threads but I don't know if anyone would find them relevant.

If you wrote it then by default you own the copywrite to it. But you can't (and I didn't) copy anyone elses posts or even quotes in the thread since they, the author, own it.

Cheers, Rod
