View Full Version : Which car is your favorite so far? I hope it is ok for me to make a poll for this.

You can only create a poll of 10 items so I had to select some. I left out many beautiful designs that far surpass my attempt. The pictures below and attached have not been weekly winners yet.

Krozn's Design is attached as a thumbnail with many colors and views.
Ole-Martin Lundefaret's Design is attached as a thumbnail and is the black picture.

All the entries have their merits. To choose just one? Impossible. How about a poll where you can vote for as many as you like?

I thought about doing it that way and would have if I could have limited it to 2 or 3 votes. I haven't even voted for one yet.
I love the front of Chris Mahoney's.
Scott Bradford has an elegant design.
Mario Morra has got to be one of, if not my favorite. I wish it had a little more excitement in the rear quarter but still manages to wow without more scoops or a wing.
Mike Palotas V.I.X.E.N. design (including week 10 and most of the other designs) are great.
Xabier's Design is simple and elegant but maybe a little too close to what a mainstream auto company might build.
The X8 is sharp looking but would be less likely to end up with a top.
Ole-Martin's design(black thumbnail) is very different but still intriguing.

I voted Mario Morra. His is the best one in my opinion. Hand down.

I also really like Goran Igor's, which isn't on your list, Xabier's track version, and the street version, Krozn's, and Adrian Carrera's (not in any particular order) and I'm probably missing some others, but those are the ones that stand out in my mind.

Mario's is just so awesome though. I'm really pulling for that design. I would LOVE to drive something that looked like that. Even if it cost more. The other thing that I really like about it is that it doesn't immediately look like anything else on the road, like some kit trying to copy another production car. It looks unique, doesn't scream kit at all, and just looks down right cool. Out of all the designs I think it definitely accomplishes the whole *head turning* "What the hell was THAT that just drove by!" of all the designs shown.

While I am truly torn between Xabier and Mario's designs, I have to think in terms of practicality. While Mario's design could easily scream a $100,000 car, I don't think it would be possible to manufacture for the $9,900 kit price. I could be wrong though since car manufacturing is not my thing.

If I combine the overall design with what, in my mind, is easier to fabricate then I have to give my vote to Xabier's concept hands down. His track version is soooo cool.

I agree that his looks like it would probably be more expensive. Personally I'd be willing to pay more for it though. Hopefully that won't be the case, or if it is that FFR decides to maybe have a couple of options at different price points? :)

Well, I hope that FFR sticks to the plan. After all, it is the lure of a $9,900 kit that will hook most people. I'm trying very hard not to get too stuck on one design. Remember, FFR can use all, part of or none of the winning design in its final design for the 818. And we still don't know about a removeable top option for that price point, or what a possible track version would do to the kit.

The problem with starting to think, "I'd pay more for it" defeats one of the primary goals of the 818: A complete car for around/under $15,000. You might pay more for it, but what about the guy who can't afford to pay more? FFR's pricing goal is lofty and admirable and I have no doubt that if anyone can do it, they can.

The kit is going to be a 'world' kit, so my money is on something sleek and sexy that would appeal to a mass market over a few continents.

All I know is come tomorrow, IT'S ON.

I voted Xabier. If I could have voted twice, vote two would have been Scotty B (Scott Bradford). It was a tough choice picking just one.

The current front runner, Mario, just doesn't do it for me. Definitly some things I like in it, but overall, no. To me it does look like a kit. Don't like th rear half at all.

I feel the exact same way although I think that Mario's design suffers most from practicality rather than price for me. With Mario's design, I'd be willing to pay a bit more to have such a look but the central air-duct really cuts into practicality as it completely blocks the rear-view. If he could split the air duct in 2 allowing a rear window and essentially have a dual flattened version of the famous aftermarket intake scoop found on many MR-2 body kits, it might have my vote just for practicality's sake.

However, for the sake of the stated target price, practicality, looks and simplicity of design and build Xabier seems to combine the most into a package that is likely to meet all the stated criteria for this competition explicit and otherwise.

That being said, I'd also vote if I could do multiples for Ernesto Freitas, Goran, cayeya, Speedboy....there are too many good ones not even on this poll!. Oh I also forgot Rotr8 who seemed to have dropped out early on but his designs were top-notch although perhaps a little complex for this kit (they look so good though, I'd pay quite a bit more than the target price to have those looks!).

So many incredible looking cars, you guys have some extreme talent!

I agree. I guess that's why I was thinking options. Maybe one design for the $10k price point and another more expensive one? I'm not sure if that would work with their business model or not, but I'm sure if it is something they could do they've already thought of it. I guess we'll see...

need several of these polls and then a final poll with the winners from the individual polls...

xabiers does it for me, the hawkeye headlights with the factory HID's are really nice, it isn't over the top, boxey or ultra futuristic just plain and simple modern car. however picking between the track version and the original...

What really sucks is that you are only considering these slick computer aided renderings and I know that there are some decent pencil drawings(mine for example, I don't have the software,or the time for the learning curve). I hope I can win the solidworks package so I can truly compete.
That said; I really dig Scotty b's design and Thanas_4's is really speaking to me, bit Xabier's has been the front runner from the beginning for me, and the little orange one from the weekly winners is kick-a**!

even of just those few cars (some of my favorites, like 05xtsy's, didn't make the list here), I can't decide between a couple of them...and we haven't seen every entry (maybe now that the contest is over, we can get a pic of every submission).........I would hate to be a judge in this one

This is why I'm glad the competition is not being judged by "internet experts". I have all the confidence that the real judges know what they're looking at, no matter the medium.

no matter the medium.
The medium is one thing, the liberties taken with front quarter views taken much higher up (or much lower) than the templates provided add an extra layer of entanglement. This will be an apples to oranges thing for the jury, I pity them to some extent.

Has everyone seen the video of the V.I.X.E.N. designs. I would skip style C and D but there is some exotic designs and it would increase the likelihood and speed of FF giving more then one design option.

I know there are some other excellent designs but when you guys mention cars that you wish had been included (not just because it is your design ;-) ) it would be nice if you could put in a link or small picture. Only if you think it is = or better then the top 3 included in the survey.

No, I have not seen this before - love it.

Who needs a dozen entries when one base car seems to do it all?

I do hate that they are all burdened with a Boxster-like hard shell top. There is an aftermarket place with a Cayman-like shell top. Such an addition would be a bonus.

that is really cool, i know of similar hard tops for the miata that work well, i would definitly pay extra for an optional and removable top like that (assuming it is pre-painted to match the body)

Would this have changed anyones vote? This includes a better shot of the co-winning design from week 10 (The car on the left with the green guy in it). Also the way he designed this I think all but 2 or 3 of the cars use the same passenger section and all the designs are differentiated by swapping the front and rear section. This would give Factory Five more than one design with a lot less engineering on there part. They could also roll out one design and then add others later.
