Looking for pics of how routing goes for a 302, and what type separators used , thanks

This is the way The Engine Factory ran the spark plug wires on my 302 carbureted crate motor. I hope the pics are clear enough.

There's going to be differences depending on your firing order. The original SBF 260, 289, and 302 firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. 302 HO/351W order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Typically aftermarket cams use the HO firing order. Which firing order do you have?

There are dozens of different separators or looms. Depends on the look you want, over the valve covers vs. along the edge, how much you want to spend, what fits your setup, etc. To get an idea, go to Summit Racing and put "Ignition Wire Looms and Separators" in the search. Narrow it to SBF and there are 85 to choose from. I've used the ones from R&M Specialties, but there are many others.

Paul,
I have mine set up "okay" but I think my wires are not specific to each location. i have seen many that seem to have shorter wires for the front sparkplugs. Mine are shorter but not "perfect" . Do you know of engine specific wires. If so where do I purchase and what "size" which I assume is the resistance. Henry.

Hey Henry. I've always just cut mine to custom lengths. I typically use 8mm Taylor wires and have one of their crimping tools. Not cheap at $70, but a one time thing. They sell sets with unfinished ends and loose boots and terminals for the distributor end. Once I get the routing the way I like through whatever looms I use, then cut and finish the ends.

I run mine similar to the previous post by Edward. You will have to verify your firing order but I followed this one.

I bought a MSD kit that you cut to length. It came with the crimper tool that fits in a vice and there are a choice of spark plug and distributor cap boots to choose from. The looms I got off eBay.

Paul,
Is the crimper specific to Taylor. I have a pretty good ratchet crimper with a bunch of inserts. What size does the 8mm require? Thanks. Regards. Henry

I use the ceramic end plug wires on all my 302's. I also use these type wire routers. Makes for a very neat and easy to work on setup IMO.

The tool is marked with the Taylor brand name. It works perfectly on the 8mm wires I used. I believe it's made for 8-8.5mm wires. I can't say whether the crimp they're using is common to other brands or tools. My only experience with plug wires is this one. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tay-43400/overview/

Note it also has a stripper so you can properly strip the outer shielding down to the inner conductor. PM sent.

I used an Accel Crimper (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/acc-170036/overview/) on my Taylor wires. Not the best pictures and mine is a 351w, but it should give you options/ideas for a 302. I used the R&M Billet looms (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rnm-1105-90-s/overview/make/ford) along the valve covers. Some changes in valve covers and air cleaners, but you get the general idea.
