View Full Version : When do you consider the Midnight deadline?

I got into a heated talk about this with a family member.

I say it is at the end of the day.

Is it the beginning or ending of a day, depending on how you look at it I guess.

So what I wonder is, how is FFR looking at it, beginning or ending of a day?

So is the deadline at the end of June 1st or the beginning?

Thers only one midnight in a day, 12;01 am is a new day, midnight comes after 12:00 noon.

Are you going to wait until then to upload a submission?

Based on the 12 hour clock, it could mean the beginning or ending of a day.

Based on 24 hour time, it is the beginning of the day.

The start of a new day is 0000:01, 2400 is the end of the day.

I was curious about this as well. Is the submission deadline at midnight tonight, or 11:59 PM tomorrow night?

Really guys?

Considering the fact that it adds an entire day to the submission time, yes... really.

What time Zone?????

I'd think it would be safe to say that if you wait until June 2nd, you're out of luck.

No it doesn't. June 1st at midnight is June 1st at midnight! It's not June 2nd, it's June 1st.

What time Zone?????

I think it's pretty obvious that because FFR is EST, that's probably what they are going to use.

Common sense! I'm sorry if you guys are getting your feelings hurt, but this is basic stuff here!

Well, every other competition I've entered specified the date, time, and time zone. This one did not. So what may seem like "common sense" to you seems like something that could easily be open to interpretation and be mistaken. In fact, most specify 11:59 PM EST or 11:59 PM PST on the given date.

I love to remind my wife when she's mad at me that she is forgetting "the big picture". Factory Five is defined by community. This contest is community-based. This next car, the 818R (I like 8181R sooo much better than 818 (thanks xabier!) will be successful in large part because of the passion, stoke, creativity, and fellowship of this community in action here on the forum.

Keep the big picture in mind. We're not a bunch of rule-making guys here but we needed a deadline. The deadline was simply to give the judges enough time to really pour thru the entries fairly before the open house. The contest has been going on for some time now and while I hate rules, we had to have some kind of cut-off. Midnight June 1st is the time we picked. If someone has a submission one second late, it doesnt work like that... We're still just a bunch of car guys having fun.

By the way, I am SO GLAD I decided to NOT be a judge! What a tough job!!!!

Again, not trying to leave it up to interpretation, is that in less than an hour, or 24 hours from now? Because if it's less than an hour from now, I'll skip pulling this all nighter and scrap this stack of sketches. :-/

My interpretation:

If they are still actively reviewing entries and yours comes in, they will look at it.

There is no interpretation! Have you read the posts in this thread?

Google it if you really can't figure it out.

Dude, you 'remind' your wife of what she is 'forgetting' when she's mad at you? It doesn't work that way at my house.

Well, in that case, scrapping these sketches and off to the Local Motors Terra Prix 2085 competition I go! Haha! And just to show what I was referring to, this is how their deadline is explained. "Submission Deadline: Tue June 7, 2011 11:59 pm EST (-4 UTC)"

Dude, this is 1st grade stuff. I'm sorry, but June 1st is June 1st. Midnight tomorrow would be June 1st. Midnight yesterday would be May 30th.

24 hrs in a day. The day starts at 0001. The day ends at 2400, (aka: midnight).

Here, maybe you can understand this. If your little watch says "2" in the date window, then it's too late. Or, of the calendar on your computer or smart phone says June 2nd, then you're too late.

I work for a hospital and whenever we schedule maintenance on our applications and/or network, we publish a memo informing staff of the impending downtime. It only took one memo to realize that you never put midnight as the time. Now we either put 11:59 p.m. or 12:01 a.m. as it eliminates any confusion that midnight brings.

With that said.....GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF THE ENTRANTS!!!!

As I said in the other thread: I take it as they'll be loose with the deadline, but noon on June 2nd probably won't fly.

This stuff down to seconds in time zone XYZ is the same as people wanting full chassis plans before they put pen to paper for this contest. Relax, have a beer and worry about your submission rather than the deadline.

Ding, Ding, DING.

Since the beginning it's all about reading what Dave is saying, not necessarily what his words say.

Here's the official deadline:

There have been some incredibly good entries over the last few days. Thank you all for the hard work!

We'll be accepting entries until 23:59:59 on June 1, so if you haven't sent it in yet, you'd better get hopping. Please be patient as I get them all sorted and in the hands of our judges. I'll be sending confirmation to all participants shortly thereafter to confirm your contact information.

Good luck to all entrants!

There is a reason I e-mailed my stuff before the last day. Some of you may have had the same reason, I did not want them to lose my entry should their computer system crash or become overloaded somehow. I'm not a computer guy at heart, just know when not to push my luck.

Isn't it, though?! I love how none of the people that were bashing us for even questioning had no retort to that...
