View Full Version : Dash Install Question

I have read a number of posts on installing the dash in the MK IV. In all of the pictures, and discussion it seems the dash matches the bowed frame cross member. Mine does not. If I place the corners on the frame, the top dead center is almost 3/4" below the top of the frame. (Note picture) If I place the center of the dash on the top of the cross member, the edges stick above the frame about 3/4" (Note picture)
1. Is this common?
2. Should I cut the dash?
Thanks for the help

I believe the conventional fitment is to have ~ 3/16" of the ends of the dash hoop showing above the top of the dash; this will place the top center of the dash a bit above the hoop. You will want your dash removable with the body on, so be careful about you attach the dash; many attach brackets to the hoop and then attach the dash to these. Plenty of discussion here about ways to attach the dash.

Everything I have read is that the dash does not match up to the hoop ... mine doesn't either and looks similar to yours.

I would also recommend not finalizing the position until you have had a chance to put the body on the car to make sure you have it positioned to be removable.

I just go karted with the dash temporarily installed and I am glad I did because I have some items to fix or finish that will be a lot easier to do with the dash being removable.

Like Dale stated ... check out the threads on methods of attachment because some involve installation of tabs on the dash which means you need to do it before putting on the vinyl ... I chose to add tabs on the hoop at each end and the middle to use for the attachment of the dash using the screws that come with the kit.

Don't believe any have matched the bow that I am aware of.

Good install info here

I trimmed mine to the bow. I also made brackets so the dash is easily removed with the body in place. See my build thread for pics.

Mine does not match the bow so here is what I did:

1. Install the steering shaft/column including the part that goes through the foot box so it gives you the exact location of the shaft.
2. The center the dash so that the hole for the steering shaft is right in the middle Left-vs-Right and Up-vs-Down.
3. Then make sure the bottom is level with the 2X2" support that runs across the car.
4. Hold it in place with a couple of clamps, cleco fasteners or even some tape will work.
5. Once you've done all of this, you can mark the back side with a Sharpie and you'll be able to see where the dash bow lines up against the aluminum dash piece.

Good Luck & Hope This Helps!
