Hey guys! My name is Hunter and I currently live in Clemson, SC (am an older senior undergraduate student here) and just turned 28. I currently have an Allison Legacy Touring Series car (for sale) so my father and I have a good bit of experience in building cars and mechanical work, etc. My father recently inherited his dad's 1980 El Camino and his uncle's 1980 C10 long bed. Neither are anything special, but they are special to the family. The idea is that he will rebuild the C10 for my older brother and the El Camino was originally for me but I wanted him to enjoy that truck for himself.

Which brings me to why I am here. As mentioned earlier, my ALS car is up for sale and I plan on building a roadster. This will give each of us our own vehicle to enjoy and potentially go to cruise-ins and what not together.

My thoughts for so are pretty much this:

I am currently planning on using a 2003-2004 Mach 1 donor from Copart (I have someone who has a dealer license and will help me securing the car from them)
I have no plans on upgrading the power in the initial build. In fact, if the current car I am looking at comes through I also won't be rebuilding the drivetrain before installing.
I plan on building a car that is a race car first and a street/show car second. That means I would rather upgrade the rear end than spend an extra couple grand on paint (just as an example).
The idea is to use as much from the donor as possible initially, and then upgrade/modify as I can years down the road.
The car will be used for autocrosses, hill climbs, time attacks, etc for the most part but it will be street legal and licensed.

I am sure there are other things I should be putting in here but I will update as I get more defined. The car itself will be built in Landis, NC (where my parents live and where our race shop is located) and where I will be moving to after I graduate in December. I really do look forward to getting to know guys here and on FFCars and hopefully getting to see some of your builds in person soon!

I'll add to this real quick that I do not plan on attending the build school as of right now. The only places on the car that I am worried because I don't have much experience in those areas are the wiring of the car (since I plan on using the 03-04 Mach 1, I will have to do some engineering to eliminate the PATS or pay the guys at wirediet.com to handle that from what I understand, and the tuning of the car itself as everything I have ever worked on extensively had carbs.

Welcome to the fun! I am in the process of moving to Anderson right now and have already driven my MK4 from PA. Have to get with you before graduation and let you get an idea of what you're looking at. If you're looking at it primarily for racing, what rear axle are you planning on?

Yeah would absolutely love to get up with ya!

As far as the rear end, I will probably stick with the stock 3.55 gears in the Mach 1 (and I believe that means the axle width has to get shortened up a bit). EVENTUALLY, I would like to put a quick change rear end in it but that is a very very long time down the road.
