Hello and happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone.

Short version first, then in-depth explanation: With a mk4 Roadster complete kit, do the front upper control arms mount on the side or the top of the mounting brackets on the frame?

My dad and I thought that we would get a lot of work done this weekend with the extra day, but realized that we may have gotten a donor manual instead of a mk4 Roadster Complete Kit Manual (the cover says complete kit but there is a lot of stuff about the donor in the manual and lots of build details/pictures are left out compared to our older complete kit manual.

We are confused as to where to mount the front upper control arms. there are two mount points, on the outside and on the top. Our manual from December says to mount on the outside, but the one that came with the kit says to mount on top (although, as stated earlier, we suspect that the manual that came with the kit was mislabeled and is for a donor build).

the complete kit manual says to use the flangeless nut to mount the control arm to the side of the bracket, but our kit came only with nuts WITH flanges on them.

Should we just mount the control arms on the side and grind down our nut to make it fit? we would really like to get back to work but can only go so far without needing to dismantle a lot of work if we make the wrong decision.

Sounds good - I think I've got it figured out - going to have to grind down the flange on a couple of nuts - not too big of a problem. side mounting looks like the way to go.

We'll be back in the garage first thing in the morning.

I believe if you are using FFR's spindles the UCA mounts on top, otherwise it mounts on the side...

Check with FFR when your getting your manual, they'll send you the correct nut so you don't have to grind down anything.

Actually Dave it's the other way around; FFR spindles use the side and Fox or SN95 go on top.

Oops, that's right, I got mixed up. Sorry. My fox spindles mount on top. The came out with the side mount when they released the FFR spindles. My bad...

Hope you guys got the answer you needed to keep moving, as noted, the top mounting position is if your using SN95 or Fox spindles,

The lower side mount is the improved SAI location and should be used with the FF Spindles. I believe Whitby's also sells a partial SAI Kit now for MKIV guys who want to use the side mount with SN95 spindles.
