I'm curious what other builders are using for weatherstripping on Mk4 doors. It's hard to tell what you're getting when you search online. The gap on my doors is a little over 1/2", so I'm thinking that I need a overall thickness of about 5/8-3/4". Suggestions?

Check my web site for weather stripping.

works well for around the hood as well.

I use the "D" shaped weatherstrip that Mike offers on the doors and hood on all of the cars that I build and paint. Apply it to the doors themselves and for the hood it's your choice whether you prefer to put it on the body flange or underside of the hood.

I'm with Jeff for putting it on the doors. I put my weatherstripping on the hood so I won't rub on it while working on the car, and it'll shift with the hood and not leave it exposed.

1/2" + gap seems way too large - are you sure your doors are flush with the outside of the body?

Your right. I remeasured and found the gaps to be just under 1/2" so Mike Eversons stuff should be just fine. Thanks for the reply.
