Is there any market for or interest in a rebuildable EJ25 shortblock? Lost the number 4 rod bearing in my '09 Subaru OBXT at 92K miles, 3 months out of my extended warranty. 100% stock, no additional boost or tune, 3K mile oil changes, so I was a bit ticked to say the least. Instead of rebuilding it, I found the easier and more cost effective fix for a stock rebuild was a brand new shortblock from Heurburger Subaru in Colorado. Great prices compared to my local WI dealers.
Anyhow, this isn't an advertisement for them... I swapped my recently rebuild heads, turbo, etc... onto the new block and am happy with the results. As for the old shortblock, at this point I have a chunk of aluminum that isn't even a good boat anchor since it's too light. If there isn't a market for a good rebuildable motor for anyone looking to go big boost, etc.. then I'll keep it and turn it into something for the man-cave. Maybe split the block halves and turn them into bases for end tables or something. I'd rebuilt it myself but a 2.5L boxer in a Roadster just isn't going to give me the side-pipe sound I'm looking for.
Any other ideas on what to do with the block? Recyclers maybe?
