View Full Version : Sacrificial Anode Radiator Cap

Anybody using radiator cap with sacrificial anode attached to control electrolysis?

Any concern that the anode in the top hose would create an issue by effectively reducing volume flow of coolant (anode looks like it could be 25% of the width of the ID of the hose).

Alternatively, I could use the anode plug, but just filled the system and so the radiator cap would be easier.

Any guidance appreciated. Thanks.

I have the FFR Afco radiator- no cap in the radiator.

I used to work in the boating manufacturing industry during the summer when I was in school. I saw the results of unprotected boat components first hand. We had them installed near/on stern drives and on the hull in the area of the engine compartments. I don't know if the engineer was over zealous but we ran ground wires directly to the batteries not trusting the ground of the hull itself. I had not really considered it for auto but it seems to be popular in the hot rod industry.

To you point: I think you should test it as it is now. You should find out pretty quick if the coolant flow is adversely affected. I think you will be fine though. You can eventually replace the radiator cap with a plug in the upper bung of the aluminum radiator.

Good luck,

I just purchased/received one from Summit - 1/4 NPT fitting from Flex-O-Lite that I'm going to see if it will fit/clearance at the back of my lower intake. It's not a radiator cap one, but according to Flex-O-Lite - it can be fitted anywhere in the coolant flow/system. It's fairly long, so I'm not sure if it will clear, but I have taken Jeff's idea of a drain petcock on the other side of the intake to burp the coolant when filling, so if it doesn't clear, I might try replacing one of the petcocks in my FFR radiator...
