I have come to the most confusing part of this build for me. What is the deal with these adapters? I have 5 sets which is good. Each comes with the large coupling and 2 smaller diameter couplings. The instructions aren't very specific on which one goes where. The 2 smaller adapters have different thicknesses.

the manual says: "Slide one of the radiator hose adapters onto the water pump outlet on the bottom front of the engine. "

Which adapter are they speaking of? The thicker (on the right in the photo) or thinner walled one?

Where does the other one go then?

I think I have figured out that the larger one with the hose clamps connects directly to the corrugated tubing without an adapter which makes me think there will be some adapter pieces left over. Am I correct there?

Rob-

That's how I understood and plumbed the kit. I ended up not using the smaller diameter one. Perhaps they're for a non turbo coolant hose to step up to the FFR provided one. I believe the NA hoses are smaller diameter

Hi Rob,

This isn't anything peculiar to the 818 kit. All the radiator adaptor kits have multiple possible combinations. There are so many tubing flanges (radiator) and castings that it just makes sense to have that flexibility. I always find the best close fit without forcing or over crimping the tubing when tightening the clamps. Of course, the corrugated tubing is "special" in itself. There have been various "fail safe" mods done to keep them from slipping. I, too, had extra pieces left on the shelf after the build.

Good luck,

WEK.

Alright. Thanks gents! I guess I'll get to it then. By the way, these things are a bear to separate from each other. What are the tricks to get them to slide back together without breaking the parts or myself? Soap? Grease or oil?

What at are these fail safe mods and are they necessary or just insurance.

Thanks again guys!!

There was another thread about radiator tubing and adapters. I think it was Jeff K. who had one where he adds a round head screw of some kind to each side of the corrugated steel tube. It kept the clamp from sliding on the tube. Maybe he will see and can chime in. Sorry, I can't remember where that is. Maybe a search for radiator tube adapters will get it.
