Well, I've finally have my 818R finished and it's ready to dial in once the weather gets a wee bit better, Ordered a passenger seat and harness, car is registered and insured for street testing. So what could go wrong?

I cut off my ring finger at work last week :(

Hoping it will be healed enough for test and tune day on April 23rd.

Sorry to hear that Gary. It makes me cringe because I can relate. I have cut off my left "flip you off" finger ---twice. Yeah, you read that right.

Heal quickly Pal!

Jeff

Ow. Heal quickly.

Am I the only one curious enough to know if the entire finger came off?

Ow. Heal quickly.

Am I the only one curious enough to know if the entire finger came off?

Not the only one, I was just waiting for someone else to ask!

Op took a turn it wasn't expecting.

Although this is probably the cheapest way to no longer wear a wedding ring.

I've been a framer all my life (except for that short time as a chippendale) but got offered a job of doing the finish in this 4 million dollar house I framed. I was gonna buy a new grizzly table saw but at the last minute I dropped in to see another builder that I work for. He told me he had a nice used Delta tablesaw that he would sell me cheap. It is a 220 saw that has a big extension on it's right side for doing plywood rips and stuff. I had just cut a 15" by 4' piece off the end of a sheet of azak. I then set the frence for 14" and tilted the saw at 20 degrees and started to rip it down the 14" width. Halfway through the cut one of my guys asked me a question, at which time I guess I moved it a bit to the left, THE PIECE BOUND, TWISTING THE PIECE SIDEWAYS THROWING MY HAND iNTO THE BLADE! My hand was at least a foot away from the blade when this happened! I lifted my hand and there was my finger hanging down, held on by just a 1/16' strip of skin! I screamed "911" and grabbed a T-shirt to wrap it up and knowing the local ambulance was less than a mile from the jobsite I had one of my guys called while I started running down the street to meet the ambulance. As soon as the emt saw me running towards them I told them what happened and they immediately said "We are going to Mass General"!
We got to the hospital in less than an hour and in less than 45 minutes I was under the knife in hopes of reattaching it. They tried, with three of the top hand doctors, for ten hours to reattach it but they were having a terrible time to get the blood flow back into the finger. If I was awake I would of suggested using my penis for a transplant seeing that has good flow and I barely use it but being knocked out how would they have known that? I woke up in a 90 degree room that they use to keep it as warm as possible but within an hour we all knew it was dead.
The next morning I called my foreman if he knew what happened and he pointed out why it spun. He had to send me a picture for me to even believe it! I was sold an older saw that instead of tilting away from the fence, it tilts towards the fence! So picture this, if your ripping something with the fence on teh right and the blade on the left tilting AWAY from the fence if you move it, no big deal, it just screws up the cut but it will not bind. Now tilt the blade towards the fence and that creates a triangle that if the piece is twisted AT ALL the piece will bind and with a 220 volts saw that wont bind! It explodes. I never even noticed that the saw tilted that way, and didn't even know they made them that way!
I have since disposed of the saw and bought a new sawstop saw. Sad part is that I had heard of them but didn't even know they were available. I really hope that I can run my car on the 23rd for the first time! Sad part is that on that same day is again "The make a wish" foundation drive alongs at NHIS and I know the kids would of loved to go in my 818,

P.S. Thanks for all the well wishes.

That is cool! My guy that was next to me that witnessed it is tempted to put in a comp claim for PSD. Claims he gets the shakes when he walks down the saw aisle at Home Depot now.
