View Full Version : Question re taller drivers
Hi all,
Looking at starting a building of an 818C in the next 12months approx..
My question is Iam 6ft 2inches tall how is the fit for a taller driver & what mods would be recommended Iam guessing standard Subaru seats are out of the question?
Being in Australia 818's are a tad rare so I've got to measure fitment on paper as such..
Thank you Andrew :D

I was at the HB Cruisin last year so I got a chance to sit in a FFR 818S with soft top. I have a very long torso but inseam is only 32 (6' tall) . So if proportioned perfectly I would be 6 ' 2 or 3. I was surprised how much head room I had sitting in the driver's seat. I also could have moved the seat forward a little to fit perfectly. So I would say you will fit perfectly in one. The only thing is, I don't know what seats were in there. I think they were regular upgrade seats. It is safe to say there is a lot more room in these roadsters than the Cobra roadsters and you don't feel pushed out to the left (legs and feet) like on the roadsters.
Good luck,
WEK.

Zarf, first of all, thanks for your help on my clutch problem - now solved. I'm 6 ft 3 in tall with 32 inch inseam (81 cm). I have the WRX seats in my 818 but I cut the OE seat mounts down a lot to get them lower. My donor seats are also 3 inches further back than the regular position. I bought the slim 10-gallon Boyd fuel tank but since then Factory Five has come out with a bigger tank that also gives 3 inches more to the drivers side. So, the Subaru seats are possible. I know from building a roadster that other seats, like Kirkeys, would give lots more room. Since the donor seats are "free" you could try to make them work knowing you could upgrade later.

I am an evenly proportioned 6 ft 5 and sat in the 818 at FFR last year. I was amazed at how well I fitted being a wookie and all. I think the custom seats really help.

I am 6'3" tall and have a 32" inseam. I sat in the black 818C and was a little cramped compared to the 818S I built with Boyd tank and Kirkey seats. My suggestion is use both to get maximum room for us big guys. While the new 818 gas tank gives more room than the older Hot Rod tank it still is 2" less than Boyd unit. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm also 6'2" and went with the Boyd 10 gallon tank and fixed back fiberglass Momo seats. That helped a lot. To make more room for my knees, I got a 320mm steering wheel and Rori's steering column bracket to move the steering wheel forward 2". With all of these mods, the seating feels very comfortable.

I'm 6' (or at least I was before a T6 compression fracture :p). I'm fairly long legged, and went with the Boyd tank and moved the firewall back a few inches for extra leg room. With fixed back buckets mounted low with sidemount brackets at a recline (more comfortable for my back) I have plenty of leg room, as well as headroom below the roll-bar.
The red 818 that's been at HB and other shows had GTM seats (http://www.factoryfiveparts.com/black-gtm-seats/) mounted very low when I sat in it and provided lots of room.

I agree with many of the above builders recommendations. However, I would recommend the S purely for ease of entry and exit. I'm not the tallest and it took some finesse to get in and out of the red 818 with soft top while I was at ffr.
Thanks to everyone for your replies & thoughts :D
Looks like Iam going to fit ok just a bit of push n pull on seats, steering, tank etc which is fine..
Thank you Andrew
