I am installing drop down doors underneath the dash board to make access to wiring and components more simple. I am looking for some very thin push button latches that can be installed to hold the doors in place. Doors will be made out of .040 Aluminum, so the latches don't have to handle a thick door. I already looked at McMaster. They only had one, it was plastic (I would prefer metal) and it had a "handle" on the side of it. I just want a flat push button, no handle. Didn't find anything on Summit. Does anyone have suggestions where to find such latches? Thanks.

Look around on the web for Hartwell aircraft panel latches. There are dozens of flush mount designs that the aviation community uses to keep access panels secure and they take up very little space on the inside of the panel.

Hello, I have purchased these from RJ Race Cars Inc. www.rjracecars.com. They call them "spring loaded latch". Part no 219401
52002

Hope that helps.

Jazzman,

If you purchase these and they work, let us know. The site doesn't provide any dimensions and I know space is limited. But they seem like a good idea.

The size of these are 2-1/8" long by about 1-1/2" wide. I think they about $11 each.

You may be able to make something like this work:

http://www.quik-latch.com/

They make all sizes and varieties, though they're a bit spendy.
