I have installed a set of Autometer Cobra series gauges. My speedometer only registers in reverse, which makes sense since it is a counter clockwise reading speedometer. There is an adapter on Autometers website but it is supposed to screw onto the back of the speedometer and the cable screws onto it. The Ford cable does not screw on and the speedometer does not have threads. Anybody using these gauges have a solution?

As per my coupe manual, yours should be the same:
1.trim 1/4" off the metal gauge end of the Mustang speedometer cable, otherwise the shaft inside the cable will not reach deepenough to engage with the gauge receptacle
2. pass the cable through the hole in the top of the drivers footbox cover and run it to the dash.
3.The speedo cable doesn't have any threads to attach it to the gauge. cut a slit in each side of the end of the housing and use a small hose clamp. this will prevent the speedo cable from coming off the back of the gauge.

thats it,,,very simple and effective..........HTH....Steven

I don't see how that will help. The speedometer works however it is a counter clockwise reading so it only works in reverse. Clockwise reading speedometers only work when going forward, not in reverse. This works just the opposite, there for it needs an adapter of some kind to reverse the direction of the input to the gauge. As I said above Autometer offers such an adapter however it is threaded and the ford cable and this speedometer are not equip with threads. They are push on connectors. As I asked before, any ideas?

you need the adapter that changes the drive 90 degrees. I think they are around 40 dollars. As for the cable i had the same problem, my neighbor came up with some plumbing parts shortened the cable and made it able to screw into the adapter.http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/Product/Images/AEI-018700342. you also need this, http://www.autopartsdealer.com/auto_meter_speedometer_cable_right_angle_adapters-p434439-p.html.
hope this helps

you need this,http://www.autopartsdealer.com/auto_meter_speedometer_cable_right_angle_adapters-p434439-p.html, and this, http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/AEI-018700342/79-93-Mustang-Autometer-Adapter-Cable-To-Factory-Speedo-Cable. My neighbor was able to fashion a modification to my EFI cable with some brass plumbing parts from lowes. HTH,

I used the adapter and cable from Breeze. All screwed together without a problem.
