I pulled the trigger on the Stinger Pimp computer for my roadster last year in Nov. I had to finish a few ongoing projects before I could get back to installing the Pimp. It is a plug and Play computer based on MegaSquirt II technology. It plugs directly into my ECC-IV harness. So I finally had time to do the rest of the hardware changes and read up on the software and install instructions. It's a little intimidating for me as I am not a computer tuner by any stretch of the imagination. However, I guess I am at least a novice tuner now because I have my engine running as of about 8 PM this evening. It's good to here the side pipes after so long quiet.

So now I have to let the engine warm up tomorrow and begin the tuning process. I hope to get to a point where I can do an auto tuning session to see if the auto tune program will smooth out some of the unevenness of the fuel tables to save me a little work. I still have to sync the timing which is especially fun as I have a real hard time seeing the timing marks on this engine. I finally took a piece of white tape and made timing marks with a black sharpie. It works the best so far. Part of the problem when I was getting the cranking timing close was that the balancer is only turning about 300 rpms so the strobe does not do it's best at that speed. Hopefully, the running timing will be easier to synchronize with the computer.

This is a pretty cool computer. I was able to diagnose a sick TPS while trying to calibrate it. So changing it out got me back on track. The calibration is so much easier and more accurate. My goal is to drive tomorrow but if not then probably Sunday.

Thanks,

WEK.:cool::cool::cool:

Just remember that the auto tune is only a starting point. It's not going to give you a smooth fuel, ignition or AFR map on it's own. Once you get to a reasonable tune you need to go into the maps and manually smooth the number and reduce the peaks and valleys of the maps. It's a lot easier to see in the 3D maps. Call me or Mike if you need any help.

Hi Frank,

I meant to thank you for the preliminary help you gave me. I have been into a couple of the maps so far and I do see the lack of smooth transition in places. Actually, there are places that inexplicably have a number say going left to right then a smaller number to the immediate right and then a number the same as the first so I know that isn't going to work. I was a clinical lab scientist so reading histograms is second nature to me but I never thought I would use them for engine tuning. I will tackle the timing sync then try to even out the idle map first. There are a lot more pieces to the puzzle than you think on this thing. I'm looking forward to see the wide band in operation. I got the car running before I got the sensor in the side pipe bung. I was having trouble getting it started without striping it. So I put it on the lift and it went in very easily. So it's still up in the air. Tomorrow it will be functional.

Thank you,

WEK.

Well, thanks are in order again, Frank. I found that little omission of the CID and injector flow rate in that "hidden" window that I may never have found. Instructions are so helpful (NOT!). I'm glad I'm not the only one to do that. Nobody I know, right? When I got that right my AFR went down to ~14.7 and it runs a lot better.

Tomorrow is the first drive for a little auto tune session. I will report how that goes. BTW: I synced the timing and it was right on. Didn't have to move the distributor at all.

Thanks again,

WEK.
