Because of some pending dash issues, I've avoided installing the steering wheel center on my MK4. My fear is that when I go back to try and remove the center piece it may lead to some scratching of the steering wheel. Are my fears unfounded? Is it easy to remove after it's been pushed on?

It can be removed fairly easy, that said I would leave it off until you think all issues have been resolved. When you do install it a light coat of white grease is not a bad idea.

Someone suggested to me to lubricate it before installing it and to remove it you can use dental floss to go between the center and the wheel and work it off.

Drill a hole in the back side of the steering wheel. That relieves the air pressure or vacuum.

EXACTLY! With the "O" ring sealing it to the wheel it'll put up a heck of a fight due to the air lock. An 1/8" hole from the void under the cap to daylight on the backside will do it.

I drilled a hole on the center above the o-ring going into the center. Does the same thing. Having the Russ Thompson turn signals mkes the hub a bit thicker, so the hole would have to be that much deeper in the hub. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. Or two quarter dozens.
