There are a number of things I'm planning on upgrading this spring. Got started tonight on new exhaust mockup tonight and made good progress. Comments welcomed.

Also looked at offsetting the mufflers and the outlets but think they look better in line.

Where did you get the new pipes? Did you consider a single pipe similar to the roadster? I hope to get involved with a coupe build in the future. Thanks

Looks great. Do you have any full shots of the car? Green is one of the colours I'm thinking for our build.

Hey Mike,
Did you reuse the tips from the old pipes or are those new too.
Looks like the Mark Dougherty update he put on Chris's car. Might be something I do down the road.
I agree on keeping the pipes in line, it looks better. Are you doing the welding yourself?

Hi, all:
I give full credit for the concept to Mark and Chris, and I unabashedly borrowed the idea from them. The pipes are 2.5" and all new. I am using the stock headers. I bought the pipe and mufflers from Summit, who happen to have the mufflers 24239 on sale for $40 each. I think I paid $69 and thought I'd done well as they were $100 at one point. The outlets are just cut 90 degree bends.
The pipe kit had 45, 35 and 90 degree bends. All the bends are not polished but the straight pipe was (although I ordered polished). Will polish it before welding. My welding skills are pretty poor, so I will tack-weld on the car and have a friend who makes municipal drinking water treatment systems and welds stainless all the time do the rest.
I did not consider a single pipe as like the look of the original 2 into 1's. There is no reason you could not do so, if that is your choice.
Single Malt, there are photos of the car on my web page, a bit outdated, but link is in my sig line. If you click on one of the photos, it will link to my photobucket where there are lots more. The green is our take on british racing green. light green metallic in a dark green base so it changes appearance between sun and shade. I'm in Barrie and have been watching your progress with interest.

Hi Mike
I like it. You have the pipes staggered in one of the photos but not the others. I like the even look better. Are you looking to gain HP or a different sound....or both?

Hi, Marc:
I had my original pipes ceramic coated, and unfortunately they didnt do a good job. They rusted quite a bit, so after 4 years, I decided I needed new pipes. So, stainless steel, bigger diameter to reduce the constriction, and also to change the exhaust note. So a bit of everything. I like the even look too, so that is what I will go with. I'm not sure I like the non-parallel bend at the front, but it is a compromise that works. Superformance does a very clean larger diameter exhaust but the different radius mandrel bends are not within my skills or budget.
I'm looking for ideas about how to mount it to the frame. I am thinking of two bars at either end of the muffler section, and with a similar mount as the originals, and maybe not use the clamps.
Others who have done the larger pipe report hp gains of about 40hp for a 351, so I am definitely hoping for more but expect maybe 20 or 25. I also considered a cross-over near the header but that might be next year's change.
You must have no more snow, and are going to be on the road soon??

Mike, looks really nice. The larger diameter pipe will give you more hp plus a more pleasant exhaust note.
Marc, you are correct ... I gained 42 rear wheel hp by going to a large diameter single sidepipe on my 422" Windsor. Took me awhile to get used to the single sidepipe look, but in the end, I loved it.

My guess is that you can't use the same single side pipes as with the roadster? I would think they need to be longer? What source did you use for the single pipes and did you use the roadster headsets or specials ones? Thanks

Several folks have used the roadster single sidepipe, including Dave Smith on his coupe.
My single sidepipes were built by Doug Marino, Raptor Racing, Fresno, CA. They are polished stainless and re-packable.

I've been trying to get a number of projects finished and they seem to finally be coming together. First of season autocross tomorrow but the forecast is for 36 degrees and snow, but I'm not ready anyway. New brakes will be bled and final mounting of new exhaust tomorrow. Welded up new exhaust yesterday and polished it today.

thanks for the words of encouragement. Everything seems to take longer than I expect. On the road after fixing a few leaks, and it seems to be behaving well. I used two hangers on each side and had to modify the clamps to the headers to get all to fit.
The sound is lower in tone, and seems quieter on the inside but louder on the outside. Noone ever said these were stealth cars.
