View Full Version : Need a measurement (Rear lower control arm)

I discovered during my hillbilly front wheel alignment that one of the lower control arm mounts on my Moser rear is welded on out of position. It looks like the right side mount is clocked a little and it's causing my wheelbase to be 1" shorter on the right (89"). The only fix I can see is to make adjustable control arms for the rear so I'd like some kind soul to take a center-to-center measurement on their not-yet-installed arms so I can order what I need to make my replacements.

Don't have any arms here to measure for you Joe but keep in mind that front wheel caster can play with the wheelbase. If one side is sitting negative and the other positive there will be a discrepancy. While it doesn't rule out the possibility of an error with the rear mounts it could be why you are seeing the difference.

Jeff, I checked that too, but the rear end is definitely cockeyed in relation to the frame. I have toe out on the left rear and toe in on the right. I already took them out to see how best to make them adjustable. The aftermarket ones are too expensive for my Italian frugality. I'm thinking of cutting them near the center and welding in threaded plugs and using 3/4-16 left-right studs. I'd love to hear more ideas on it.

Yep, sounds like you eliminated caster from the equation.

Hi Joe, I measured the lower control arms from my Mk III that I took off to put on Gordon's adjustable lower control arms. I am not sure if they have changed over the years, but these measure at 17.5" center to center.

Thanks, Geoff. Now to cobble up some adjustable arms.

Adjustable arms make it nice & easy to set up the axel. Surprised they are not standard equipment from FFR.
