I'm ready to pull my 4.6 liter 4 valve engine out of my mustang but can't figure out how to attach to the engine. I was planning to attach to 2 of the upper bolts on each valve covers but after removing the bolts they don't look like they could carry the weight. HELP

look for factory lifting loops, also use grade 5 or 8 bolts in accessory holes, usually at the back and front of heads.

See edward's build thread. 1/4 steel plate from lowes/HD 12" x 6" or so. cut in half, bend, drill some wholes, attach to exhaust port. Attach chain to upper wholes/bolts in plate.

I don't mean to sound like a complete idiot, but as far as this I am. I don't know what you mean.

looking at pics of the 4.6, I see that the factory didnt leave any loops for you. you will Have to make some kind of lifting attachement. Make sure you sue strong bolts, attach to the block or heads, dont use any "extended bosses", since they can break. You might have to get creative.

You don't need anywhere near 1/4 inch thick steel. 1/8 x1.5 flat steel will be fine. (1/8x1 would be fine but I don't know how large the holes for the bolts need to be so I erred on the side of caution w/ the 1.5 in recommendation) When I recently installed my 351W all the holes on the front of the heads were taken up by alt and PS pump mounts. I grabbed an old real long serpentine belt and looped it through those brackets. Attached the front chains of my leveler to the ends of the belt.

Factory lifts on the Coyote are the rear of the right cylinder head & front of the left one. Holes were pre drilled & large diameter (sorry don't remember the size.) Maybe this picture will help:

For future reference with a 4.6 SOHC or DOHC I have always used the alternator bolt holes on the front of the motor and the pick two on the back of the head for the rear.
