The manual doesn't show (or I have missed it) how the carpet fits in the footwells. Does it cover the round chassis members or do they remain exposed?
Does anyone have good photos?

The little bit of the large 4 inch chassis tubes that is exposed on each side is covered. The smaller chassis tubes across the lower front and upright on the DS, lower outside corners on both sides, and diagonal on the PS are not covered by the stock carpet. I don't have any great pictures on hand. This is the best I could find of the DS footbox. You can just see the front lower tube is exposed. Some guys do add carpet to cover them, but the stock pieces aren't designed to do that. HTH

Awesome Ed. Yes that helps.

Where did you get your shifter boot/bezel? I don't like the FFR rubber one.

That appears to be the Mike Everson shift boot. I have that on our build with the rubber FFR boot under it acting as a heat/weather shield...

I used Dynamat to provide a solid sound and feel to the floor, rear bulkhead, and footboxes, then covered that with 3/8" foil backed felt underlayment. I had the standard FFR carpet edged by a local auto/boat/airplane upholstery shop after I had fitted it all. Since I have the under-dash tubes, I cut the standard trans tunnel carpet piece and then put a couple of notches in it so that it would fit around those tubes - the thin strip that I'd cut off the front of that piece was then used over the tunnel behind the tubes.

You can see from these photos that you don't have to cover the entire panel with the Dynamat to damp noise and make it sound solid, but I did cover some areas more than others just because of the quantity of the material I had. Also, in the first picture, you can see the aluminum diamond plate that I used to protect each of the footwell floors (smooth side up) - that is held in place with 3M stripcaulk on the underside.

The foil-backed felt underlayment was installed using aluminum tape to cover all of the gaps.

The first carpet picture also shows the rubber pads that I had added to the floor, footbox sidewall, and floormat - I made the floor mats myself using remnants of the FFR carpet left over after covering the trunk.

This picture also shows the seat-back brackets and the leather-covered chassis tubes - I covered all of the visible chassis members with carpet, leather, or vinyl.

I did the same for the trunk - except for the main lower panel is held in place with hidden snaps so that I can get to the access panels for the fuel sender, pickup, and the storage cubby that is under the floor.

An added tip - spray the areas that may be visible between carpet pieces with black rattle-can paint so that they aren't obvious. Most won't be seen, but this little step helps tremendously in overall appearance.

Regarding your question about covering the round tubes, here are a couple closer pics showing those areas:

http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab15/CCRsAC/IMG_20140725_163735755_zps5669a8cf.jpg (http://s845.photobucket.com/user/CCRsAC/media/IMG_20140725_163735755_zps5669a8cf.jpg.html)

In this passenger footbox pic, you can see the leather that comes out from the top of the footbox and wraps around the front of the 2x2 chassis tube. The footbox itself has the 3/8" foil-backed felt insulation on the inside top panel, which is also covered (in that case, with black vinyl).

Yep, that's it. I've tried several, including Lokar, and like Mike's the best. The FFR rubber one is more authentic (check pics of originals) but I prefer this look. He also sells a polished aluminum ring, which is nice. But the stock FFR one looks and works the same.

Thanks guys. Nice pics Gumball.

So where can I get the foil backed felt? Is it an automotive product?

I bought mine at the local JC Whitney warehouse, but Speedway Motors and other places - Summit and Jegs have it.

So do you still use spray adhesive on this to glue carpet down?

Some do and others don't. I glued both the felt insulation to the floor (right over top of the Dynamat) and then also glued the carpet to the foil surface of the insulation. Seems to have worked pretty well for the past two years. The only one that isn't glued down is the main trunk floor piece over the gas tank area.

Thanks Gumball. Is that FFR carpet in your pics?

Gumball

Yep - standard FFR carpet. I bought two extra yards to do the trunk and made patterns out of construction paper. I used the extra from that to make the floor mats. Since I had the upholstery shop add the rubber heal pads to the driver's floor carpet, both mats, and the engine side of the driver's footbox, I haven't noticed any wear after 3500 miles of use. I looked at aftermarket carpet, but I actually like the FFR stuff.

Here's a close-up of one of the wear pads - these were much larger pieces for a truck or something that the shop gave me to cut-down before they did the edging and sewed these in place.
