Hey guys I'm just wondering how many would be interested in a t-top. I'm meeting with a fibreglass guy tomorrow. Target is something like the ferrrari 458 spider or mclaren 12c. Here's some pics to give you an idea of what I'm thinking:

Fugly... Making the top out of fibreglass copying the current soft top design does not work. The humps are too wide, visibility sucks, and the humps are too low. Also there's the problem of how to replace the soft seethrough material with glass and not have it leak. Right off the bat you can see that we'll have to make both the engine cover and the rear trunk with cooler humps that are further out, as well as the t-top top. The t-top top can probably attach to the glass frame in the front and the roll bar in the back. I'm thinking the glass is attached to the engine cover, and humps, and the t-top top seals against the glass and the windshield frame. One of the things that I really dislike in the coupe is how narrow the rear lid is. If you compare the 818 to a 458 or 12c, you can see the humps on the convertible are also too narrow in the back. They'd look better if they were further out.

I like the mclaren look:

There's a local guy that could probably make those out of carbon fibre as well.

I'm more into a T top for 818C but for the S would be nice if I change my mind

A Targa along the lines of the 458 would be very interesting. I'd need to see full scale model before deciding though.

I want a very simple targa top, flat rear window, loop of material around/over the roll hoop. roll up targa top with zip/velcro in windows. One way or another it will be my emergency top soln

I would consider a targa or T top it - if it looks good and is in the same price range as the convertible top or a coupe upgrade. Bonus points if it is compatible with the FFR trunk. I don't see any reason it couldn't be. Double bonus points if there is somewhere to stash the top (other than the passenger seat) - that seems difficult. My current plan is to go with the convertible top. The coupe looks great but I was hoping for something more removable.

I'd consider it if the price was low.... I would only have it as an emergency for getting caught in the rain. Would also need to figure out where to store it in the car when not in use. Maybe under the hood somehow if it split into two pieces?

I would definitely consider a nicely made T top. My objection to the coupe option is the very limited access to the engine compartment that it affords.

There's been interest from the beginning of a t-top for the 818. Making it happen with a windshield that is adjustable limits the style of t top that can be used. Attaching to the windshield and the roll bar IMHO is the only way to attach a one piece solid version of a t-top. IMO making the t-top fit flush with the engine cover will take a lot of time and money. It would be cheaper to buy a hardtop and cut it up to make a t-top version. IMO making a part that ties in the t-top to a cover for the roll bar to the engine cover would be the direction to go.

The Ferrari example along with some others can be used for inspiration.

Hope this makes sense I've been sick all month and it's hard to concentrate.
