View Full Version : Drive Shaft Adapter Doesn't Seem to Fit

I apologize if this is a question that's been answered before. I thought I'd seen an answer previously, but searching did not turn up a thread.

Anyway, I'm building a MkIV kit with the 2015 IRS, including the full set of IRS parts from FFR.

With the kit came the drive shaft adapter. The parts list showed it as the correct adapter - for a manual since this is mating with a TKO600.

However, when it came time to bolt this adapter to the center section for the IRS, the adapter appears to be ever so slightly too big to fit.

Looking at it straight on (when held in place as in the pic above) the holes for the 6 hex bolts also do not quite line up with the matching holes into which they're supposed to go. The whole adapter appears just a bit too big, with the bolt holes commensurately also too widely spaced to line up.

Have any of you encountered this? Is it that I have the wrong adapter? Is it that I have the wrong center section? Is it that I'm missing something obvious?

Thanks as always for your help.
Paul

Looks like you got the wrong adapter. There are two different ones: For aluminum center sections installed in automatic trans Mustangs, and iron center sections installed in manual shift Mustangs. That's what "manual" is referring to in the instructions, e.g. what transmission the center section was intended for. Not what transmission you have in your build. I can't tell which center section you have from your pic. But call FF and tell them which one you have, and they will set you up with the right adapter. Since they provided they center section, they should have supplied the right adapter. But apparently not...

FWIW, I have the iron center section, and the adapter is black. It fits fine. Already installed.

Thanks much.

I guess it's calling FFR on Monday for a replacement adapter.

Thanks much.

I guess it's calling FFR on Monday for a replacement adapter.

Just an FYI, they may be back ordered. I'm still waiting on mine from the first of the year, although they mentioned this week that they received a lot of parts earlier this week and shipping is backed up.

And just to make things one step more confusing, I also have the iron center section, but my adapter looks just like Paul's and fits fine. When I first saw EdwardB's adapter, I thought I had the wrong one. But mine fit right in with no issues.

When I hear back from ffr on this I'll update here in case it adds any clarity for others in the future.

I received a replacement driveshaft adapter from FFR on Friday. Adding to the confusion, it is neither black nor polished brass/yellow looking:

On the upside, it seems to fit.
