I wasn't ready to move but a co-worker just smashed is 2004 Impreza Wagon 2.5(NA) TS. He smashed it from the rear, so the front is al good. It as many miles on it, but I planed on rebuilding the engine.
For around $1000 could it be a good choice ? Maybe some suspension component at the rear are broken, I'd have to see !
This would leave a lot of time to disassemble and prep all the parts before I order my kit.
I do have to submit the buy to THE BOSS, before I can go ahead ...
What kind of power adder could I include in the rebuild of that engine ?
What should I be looking for in this donor before buying it ?
Thanks

What state is the car from? If I had to do it again, I would have found a non-NY donor. Took me twice as many hours to take the donor apart and I lost some parts due to rust.
If you're looking for an NA build, it could be a good donor! I would look at control arms (rust or bent), see how the engine runs/rev/idles, see if the trans shifts to every gear (5 speed, right?), make sure steering feels okay (like not totally broken, though even if it is it's pretty fixable), and check radiator for leaks.
For power to an NA, there are lots of good threads on NASIOC, iWSTi, and the like that discuss high compression engines and such.
Best of luck!

For $1000 I would think you could make your money back pretty easily by parting the rest of the vehicle out. But my donor was a wrx sedan, so I'm not speaking from direct experience.

I'm on the Canadian side (profile does not show my details), from Quebec specifically. I think I the donor will be rusty, as I have the same condition as NY in some way. I"ll have to deal with it, as all Canadian donor would be rusty in some way. I'm use to working in those condition, I just recently did all the rear suspension of my 2005 pick-up....
From the pictures he showed me the rear end took a pretty hard it... he rear ended a electrical poll at very high speed (trying to avoid another car), the driver seat is broken (I wonder why :)). Maybe the suspension component are still good ? I will not know until I have a closer look at it.
If the rear as no salvageable component I may ask to lower it's price. I will look at other adds to see if he is within prices range. Also he told me he would remove the header he installed (he as the original) and the 4 pistons brakes he put in (no original).
