Has any one ever had to use a fire extinguisher or is it just eye candy?
Where can you get different inserts for the steering wheel and FFR mags49465
My car looks great and drives unbelievable, did all the work myself except the spray paint which only cost $2700.00 the cost of PPG paint is expensive

Fire extinguisher YES, and it was a friends 2nd gen rx7 I was driving that was stock. Only thing that saved us was a state trooper with a fire extinguisher that happed to be right there at 2am. It burnt up most of the under hood wiring but was fixed and driven again. Cheap insurance.

Its a home built car - better off with one than without.

Also, Make sure its reachable from the drivers seat , while strapped in. Otherwise it could be useless if unreachable.
Even I need to relocate mine.

That's what I am talking about Crags I have driven thousands of cars in my lifetime and except for military tanks trucks and helicopters none of them had extinguishers. Also I take exception to the premise that this car being home built over a full year that there is a lack of attention to detail as just about every part that was installed had to be modified or tweaked to perform its intended purpose about the only thing that could be used as purchased was the oil.
Does anyone have any answers to the second question?

Don't be offended by the fire extinguisher responses. You asked, people are answering. These were race cars, the originals had them, and since these are replicas, many install them. Plus they may be required for some sanctioned events, if that's in your plans. But in the end, they're a safety device and cheap insurance. I have them in mine. I do remember several vehicle fires being reported on here over the 5-6 years I've been following. One of the most talked about one was because a fuel injection hose failed. It was a purchased item. Nothing to do with the builder's skill or workmanship.

Finishine (https://www.**********accessories.com/) is a forum vendor that has various body and steering wheel badges, if that's what your asking about with your second question.

The PDG GTM caught on fire while at Thunderhill from a failed fuel line part. Sometimes it's a part failure and not something you did. That's what happened in the RX7 I was driving.

I HOPE that my fire extinguisher, roll bars, seat belt, helmet, side impact bars, and crumple zones are all decorative.

I un-clipped mine once with a header fire due to a carb problem but didn't have to discharge it. I would have felt pretty helpless if I didn't have one and it had been a real fire.

********** has "AC" or Cobra steering wheel center caps. They have some wheel centers, but I don't know if they fit FFR wheels.

You may be missing the point about the need for a fire extinguisher. It really is more of a statistical thing. Using me as an example, I have experienced three auto fires personally. Two were in hot rods with carb fires. But one was in a 4x4 truck which was well maintained on a cross country trip. I did not have an extinguisher at the time. I had been driving on a two way highway in a rural area with a lot of wind and debris on the road (tumble weed, leaves and such). A piece of the tumble weed and some leaves somehow lodged under the chassis near the exhaust pipe. When I stopped at a service station for gas the smoldering batch caught on fire while I was checking under the hood. I paniced at first but eventually grabbed the five gallon bucket of water for window washing and put out the fires. I was very close to losing the whole truck as the wind was whipping up and there was plenty of fuel (weeds and stuff) to feed the fire. So the chance of vehicular fire isn't so much the vehicle but the circumstances you find yourself. I think carrying a good hand operated fire extinguisher is essential as the cheapest insurance you can have. Just think of the investment (30, 40, 50K).

One more thing: I was in a laboratory flash fire with acetone ether which is not allowed in the lab any more. It was on the day of the hospital's annual inspection by the fire department. It was a big deal with the fire chief showing up in his white firemen's hat and it was during Fire Prevention Week. So we had a 3 alarm fire called. Turned out good though as we were trained and had adequate fire fighting equipment. What are the odds????

I think ********** has a very good choice for badges.

Good luck on your project,

WEK.

At a car show this summer a guy asked me if the fire extinguisher was just for decoration. I said "I hope so!":
