Hi guys,

I need a few pics of the inside door panel. Specifically, I need to know if there is still an aluminum piece that frames the door handle. I'd like to engine-turn it as a potential product, but when I went to FFR to order a blank the tech I talked to wasn't aware of the piece. In the following pic of the first prototype I took and the FFR open house back in 2013 FFR lasercut a "818" into the panel. I know they never went to production that way, but it helps identify the panel I'm looking for pics of:

Does FFR still make this door panel insert? Do you have a picture and part number you can post?

Thanks!

:)

To my understanding no one has the new door panels. I have an 818c and no panels tell the new versions are mailed when ever that is.

This is the piece I'm looking for, from Erik Hanson's build. In the shot below he has engine-turned the piece, similar to what I want to do:

Dave, do you want my aluminum door panels? I have not done anything to them because I am waiting for the hard top retro package that will include new door cards. And, even if these are supposed to be used with the new cards, they won't work with my interior. To you, shipping cost only.
Pete

I can drop them off. I'm local and you can use mine to prototype

I may also have "old" ones (frame 230, around June of 2014) that are entirely unused. R frame came with door panel stuff I believe.

07FIREBLADE and Pearldrummer7 thanks, I'll take them!

Although... I'm not sure there will be a market for them now since FFR has eliminated them from the kit. I'm still going to produce a few and see if there is any interest though...

PM me your address and I'll swing by sometime early next week. They are still pieces on the current cars they just went from like you said the 818 laser cutout to Erik Hansons but bare natural finish. Personally I would like to get my hands on the 818 cutout style.

I received a set of panels this week from Pete, along with a very nice letter.

Pete, thanks a ton! Let me know if you want these back. Sorry, I seem to have "scratched" them up a bit!

First though, I polished them:

And then I engine turned them:

Pete, these are yours if you want them back. If not, I'll have to find someone with a finished car who can install these so I can see what they look like in an 818...

They look good.
I'm not sure if that look fits the 818 like it does the rest of the FFR cars.
I would like to see you black anodize them now. You would still see all of the machining still, but it would not be as shinny.

...just thinking out loud.

Very nice work, David! If I hadn't already done so much interior upholstery in tan & black I'd love to mount those door panels but somebody with a black interior will certainly pay big bucks for that work. So far I have not even mounted the door cards because I'm waiting for the new hard top with new door frames, glass, cards, etc.

I wish I could send you my beer belly so you could make it look like a six-pack.

OK I'll try that. THANK YOU for the feedback!
