Is there enough space under the hood of the '65 for a LSX 454 with twin turbos and all the plumbing for intercooler?
It's my understanding the block is longer, higher, but lighter than the 351 Boss.
I would not mind cutting the hood to create vertical space but I worry about lateral and front space for the intercooler.

IMO, it would be tough without serious custom fabrication, but it could be done (I just looked at Mike Marshal's LS coupe build pics). You may have heat issues due to lack of space. If you're willing to remotely mount the turbos you would have more room. Why you would want to punch the engine out to 454 with boost? You'd be sacrificing reliability with no appreciable power gain compared to less ci and running 1 or 2 lbs more boost. I'm not sure what your goals are, but you can easily make 1000 hp with a Ford based 302 using a Dart block with turbos. If your running 1000 hp, good luck hooking on the street under 100 mph. Cheers.

Why?
Got a semi full of rear tires you need to burn up before they get too old?
Torque in a light car is not necessarily your friend.

Sounds awesome to me, post pics if you do it. As previously mentioned, you could remote mount the turbos. I've seen vette's with twin turbos out back by the rear tires. Not sure where the piping would go....maybe exchange the side exhaust pipes for the turbo pipes?

I agree with this. The engine/turbo combination is no doubt amazing - but this vehicle weighs in at 2500 or 2600ish LBS? We are aiming for 400 to 500hp with ours and it will probably be an absolute rocket.....more than we need by a large margin.

Don't be put off by the nay sayers. Here is a video of Steve Bergs FFR that is now a few years old. From what I remember from the last time I saw him post he was at just under 900HP at the wheels and running high 8's at around 160 MPH. In the video he runs a 9.13 at 156 on 275-17 drag radials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVmUfwpNMUc There is some F bomb language towards the end so don't play at work or with kids around. Steve's car was a well sorted very streetable combination and that is key, but if you use an electronic boost control and a couple of maps in the ECU you will do just fine on the street and lay down the big numbers when you want to.

This is nice for a Roadster, but the Coupe is a different animal. With no airflow directed into the engine compartment of the Coupe, you're asking for problems. We have one builder that used a Buick V-6 Turbo in a Spyder years back. The main complaint was heat in the Engine compartment and how to get rid of it. As far as I know, there was no long lasting resolution, and nothing but complaints about the heat followed. As others have said, why so much HP. You can do what you like, it's your dream, but listen to Cooler Heads,(pun intended) there are nothing but headaches ahead it you go this route, if you don't first address the heat problem before you start putting down money for a very expensive option.

So you're saying that it would be insane to put 1,000 HP in something with bad ventilation and just wouldn't be any fun at all......

Not sure how it would get that heavy. At one point with the LS engine, T56, and a light fuel load on race slicks I weighed 2260 lbs.
