I hope someone can help. I am running a gen1 sbc with a single wire alternator. I used the harness supplied by factory five and modified it to run my engine. When I apply power to the harness the alternator heats up even with the key off. I am assuming that it will draw the power down on the battery and I am concerned it will cause a fire.

Any help please.

Sounds like there might be something wrong in the alternator. I would have it looked at and tested at a competent parts store.

Just got mine wired up and started with the same setup as you Dave and noticed my alternator heating up after less than a minute of running the engine. I'll check to see if it does it with just the key on and nothing running. We may have the same issue. Did you run both wires to the single pole on your alt? that's what I did.
